**Job Title**:Catering Assistant

**Reporting to**:Catering Manager

**Hours & Salary**:The normal working hours will be 24.5 hours per week, term time only. The salary for this position will be paid on the NJC Scale B points 3-4 currently the full-time equivalent salary range is £22,737 to £23,114 and will be pro-rata to reflect the term time only nature of the contract, **the actual salary range for this position is currently £13,309 to £13,529.**

**Role Overview**:To contribute to the delivery of the healthy and nutritious Academy catering service.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- Preparation of meals in accordance with agreed recipes and methods.
- Prepare ingredients for meals under direction.
- Decant and/or serve food at the Academy service points.
- Operate tills/cashless system and check floats as required.
- Ensure the maintenance of a clean and orderly work environment.
- Timely and accurate preparation of equipment, resources and materials.
- Undertake basic record keeping as directed, for example on allergens, ingredients check and relevant paperwork
- Refill and replace consumables.
- Comply with the stock rotation procedure and the secure storage of supplies.
- Carry out daily checks for the quality and safety of equipment.
- Operate equipment in accordance with instructions and report any faulty equipment and other maintenance requirements to the appropriate person.
- Compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and its level of responsibility.

**Health and Safety**:The post holder must, at all times, work within the requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, current Health and Safety legislation and the School’s and LEA’s policies and procedures.

Droylsden Academy is a non-smoking site.

**General**:This job description may be reviewed at the end of each academic year or earlier if necessary. In addition, it may be amended at any time in consultation with the post holder. The post holder will be expected to participate in the Academy’s appraisal programme and to participate in appropriate staff training and development activities.

**Person Specification**

NVQ Level 1 Basic Food Hygiene or equivalent or comparable experience or willingness to undertake if certificates not already obtained.
- Professional references
- Awareness of the principles of manual handling
- Awareness of food safety and cleaning practices

**Experience**
- Good all-round safety and cleaning practices
- Understanding of food cost control
- Awareness of the principles of cash handing
- Working as part of a team

**Knowledge**
- Use of safe working practices
- Ability to follow duty rotas
- Knowledge of Health and Safety practices
- Awareness of food hygiene and storage/ service
- Understanding of portion control
- Knowledge of waste handling process
- Preparation and presentation of food skills
