An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join our busy Neonatal unit as a House keeper.

The Housekeeper is a member of the nursing support team, which provides a 7 day a week service for the Unit including ITU, SC and Transitional Care, working under the direct supervision of the trained nursing staff. The contribution of the Housekeeper support team enables the nurses to spend more time caring for the babies and their families, and helps to provide a suitable environment for this care to take place.

We have a strong multi-disciplinary team working closely with all disciplines.

Applicants will have excellent communication skills.

You will be fully supported by the Neonatal Matron and the Neonatal Team.

This post is designed to help maintain a high standard of patient centred care by being an integral part of the ward team. The Ward Housekeeper will ensure the delivery of high standard non-clinical services to patients. This will include catering, environment, minor maintenance and cleaning of equipment.

We are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of many complex illnesses. UCLH specialises in women’s health and the treatment of cancer, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease. It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology.

The neonatal unit is a busy Level 3 tertiary centre. We have 33 cot capacity, split over Intensive care, High dependency and special care. We also have transitional care which has capacity for 12 beds whereby mothers and babies can be nursed together.

Communication
- Welcome visitors and orientate them to the ward/department; advise on local routines and available amenities
- Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family/visitors/carers, providing effective customer care
- Respond appropriately to requests for general information, take phone messages and pass on written and verbal information as required
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues
- Respect the privacy and dignity of patients and their family/visitors/carers while carrying out housekeeping duties
- Transport equipment, consumables and written information as required
- Maintain effective working relationships with ward/department staff and support service departmentsAccept constructive feedback from colleagues

Personal and People Development
- Understand own level of responsibility within the ward/department team
- Identify own learning needs and produce a personal development plan in conjunction with the ward sister/charge nurse
- Reflect on and analyse workplace experiences in order to develop own skills/abilities
- Participate in annual staff appraisal, staff development and in-service training activities in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework
- Attend Trust/local orientation programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates

Health, Safety and Security
- Assist in maintaining a clean environment that is conducive to safe practice
- Report any issues at work that may put health, safety and security of staff, patients and visitors at risk
- Summon immediate help for any emergency and take appropriate action to contain it
- Understand and implement principles and practice of Infection Control as appropriate; e.g. hand hygiene, decontamination of equipment, isolation procedures
