**Assistant to Surmaster**

**Role**
To provide professional and comprehensive administrative support to the Surmaster. The Surmaster is responsible to the High Master for the leadership and effective day-to-day running our Senior School, and especially its pastoral and co-curricular provision.In many Schools this role will carry the title of Senior Deputy Head.

Wording times: Monday to Friday 8am - 16:30

**General Responsibilities**:

- Act as a gatekeeper to the Surmaster.
- Deal with all incoming communication, where possible, and ensure appropriate action and follow up.
- Diary management
- Completion of tasks, reports and letters as required at various times throughout the academic year.
- Minute regular formal meetings, and others as required, including the SPS Executive meetings.
- Work in conjunction with the High Master's EA to provide absence cover as and when required (holidays and sickness).
- Be familiar with the key school decisions, strategies, and policies.
- Provide a courteous, professional, confidential and knowledgeable point of contact for people both within and outside the School who wish to communicate with the Surmaster.
- Manage the Surmaster office budgets, to include Establishment and Hospitality, including budget forecasting and monitoring spending.
- Maintain relevant pages on the school's intranet, including oversight and coordination of updates to the staff handbook.
- Complete Inspection administration as required.
- Compile the Head's Report for the Governing Body.
- General office management as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required, providing that such duties are appropriate to the role.
Teaching Staff Related Responsibilities:
Working closely with the HR department, provide support to the Surmaster on SPS teaching staff related matters including:

- General administration, record-keeping and filing related to: Teaching Staff Induction and Training, Teaching Staff Appraisals, Teaching Staff Probations, Complaints and Concerns.
- Understanding of school processes and assisting with the administration, in particular those overseen by the Surmaster (e.g., Probation, Appraisal, management of INSET/CPD, Crossing of the Bar in relation to salary reviews).
- Organisation of new teaching staff lesson observations by the Surmaster.
- Assisting with the management of internal teaching staff vacancies/roles, including maintaining records of Special Responsibility Allowance allocations.
