Community Team Leader for the Chipping Norton Community Midwifery Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as the Team Leader for the
Chipping Norton Community Midwifery Team.

You will be responsible for leading a small team of Midwives and Maternity Support Workers in the Cotswolds area to provide a community midwifery service and 24/7 cover of a stand alone birth centre in Chipping Norton.

You will work closely with the Matron for Community Services and Deputy Head of Midwifery for Community, Public Health & Safeguarding.

We are looking for someone passionate about community midwifery and women centred, individualised care. The post holder will need to be invested in nurturing the team to encourage a positive working environment.

The team lead has continuing responsibility for the management of the community team and services in their area or equivalent sphere of midwifery practice. This includes assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and
the setting of standards.

The Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence based midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.

The Midwife will have managerial responsibility for a group of staff working within their practice area.

The Midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.

The Midwife will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to women, their baby's and family's care to promote the close integration of community and hospital-based care.

The Midwife will report directly to and develop close working relationships with the Matron for Community and the Deputy Head of Midwifery on operational and general management issues and clinical issues relevant to their practice area/team.

The Midwife will liaise with members of the OBU Midwifery Education Team to develop an effective learning environment for students.

The Midwife will assist the Director of Midwifery / Deputy Head of Midwifery in achieving the strategic objectives for the Maternity service.

**Working as a midwife the post holder will**:
Professional / Clinical Practice
- Fulfil the role of a midwife as defined by the World Health Organisation and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Midwifery Rules and Code of Practice and reflect the Trust's guidelines, policies and standards of practice.
- Manage a clinical caseload / area and be accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, responding to the individual needs of women and their babies.
- Maintain and extend clinical skills in all aspects of midwifery practice that are relevant to current developments in the maternity services.
- Participate in and support the development of evidence based clinical practice, ensuring agreed policies, guidelines and standards are implemented and monitored.
- Motivate staff to submit ideas to improve care and in collaboration with colleagues implement change, monitoring and discussing outcomes with relevant personnel.
- Act as a role model in clinical practice and be proactive to implement local, regional and national midwifery policies.
- Liaise with OUH colleagues and other professional and non-professional agencies relevant to the needs of women to ensure health and social care needs are addressed as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Clinical Governance Team on aspects of unsafe practice that do not meet agreed professional standards and take appropriate action as necessary.
- Liaise with the Transformation Midwife to implement and support changes in practice.
- Co-ordinate the day to day running of the team / area.
