The post holder will be one of two curators responsible for the development, care, documentation, research, presentation, and interpretation of the V&A’s Japanese collection. They will have a specific focus on art and design from the Meiji period to the present day, but will be expected to have interest in broader aspects of historic Japanese art, particularly in the field of metalwork. The postholder will be expected to represent the museum at the highest level and to play an active role in field of Japanese art and culture, nationally and internationally.
The postholder will also play a role in the wider work of the V&A, contributing to policy, projects and public programmes, fundraising initiatives and income generation. They will also support senior colleagues in the running of the Asia Department, helping to create a positive working environment, encouraging collaboration across the museum, and sharing knowledge, expertise and best practice.
