Welsh language is an important part of our heritage, as such we need someone who is motivated to promote the language and help the Council deliver its vision “Merthyr Tydfil a Place to Proud of”, through the Welsh language where:“People learn and develop skills to fulfil their ambitions; People live, work, have a safe, healthy and fulfilled life; People visit, enjoy and return”.

This is an exciting new role that forms part of the recently developed Policy and Improvement Section. The Policy and Improvement Section is made up of relatively small, but ambitious, teams within the Governance and Resources Directorate. We work with various stakeholders such as Staff from across the Council, Councillors, Partners who support us in delivering our outcomes, Commissioner’s Officers and more. This gives us the opportunity to better shape how the Council transforms and improves.

Being part of the policy and improvement section allows the Welsh Language Officer to work with other officers dedicated to transforming and improving the Council and promoting the Welsh language. This role will also work with the Welsh language strategic role in relation to the 5-year Welsh language strategy.

Ability to speak Welsh is essential.
