Metallurgist

Cornish Lithium is an innovative British mineral exploration and development company focused on the responsible production of lithium and other critical minerals in Cornwall, UK.

Cornish Lithium are seeking enthusiastic and collaborative Metallurgists to work at the Company’s flagship Hard Rock project near the village of St. Dennis, Cornwall. The role will involve supporting the Senior Shift Lead Metallurgist in the operation, monitoring and sampling of the TreLith Demonstration Facility to ensure process control and product quality are achieved.

As a Metallurgist your responsibilities will include:

- Support the Senior Shift Lead Metallurgist in the safe and effective operation of the Demonstration Plant, including commissioning.
- Assist the Senior Shift Lead Metallurgist in the supervision of a team of Process Technicians/Operators, which will involve shift working.
- Assist in the ongoing development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safe and correct operation of equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all planning and environmental requirements for the operation of the Demonstration Plant.
- Undertake metallurgical analyses to identify areas for improvement within the process.
- Provide mentorship for on-site process teams including technical advice and knowledge transfer.

We would welcome applicants with the following attributes:

- At least five years’ experience working as a Process Technician/Operator or two years' experience working as a Metallurgist or Process Engineer.
- Good experience in mineral processing (comminution, flotation, dewatering).
- Experience on pilot scale plants and/or operational plants.
- Sound knowledge of industrial machines and mechanical processes.
- A good standard of mathematics and science.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Self-starter.
- Ability to work on own initiative, pro-active.
- Strong competence in IT.
- Valid UK Driving Licence

Desirable factors:

- Bachelor/Master’s Degree in relevant discipline (Science, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing)
- Background in lithium processing, specifically lithium mica deposits.
- Experience in hydrometallurgical processes, specifically acid-leach processes.
- Experience of SCADA systems.
- Forklift/telehandler licence.

The role will be based at the Company’s TreLith Processing Site, St. Dennis, St. Austell, Cornwall. Annual leave comprises 25 days’ holiday per year pro rata, plus UK Bank Holidays. Success applicants must be prepared to work a shift rota which will include nightshift and weekend working. These positions are Fixed Term for a period of up to 18 months.
