Technical Specialist - Malt Distilling

Location - Moray House, Elgin

Term - Permanent & Full Time

About the Role

As a Technical Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in our Technical Team in Moray House and support all operational sites within our Malt Distilling footprint. You’ll continually provide technical insights to improve and enhance the performance of Malt distilling, whilst driving energy efficiency with considerations of cost, environmental and energy targets. The role will involve working closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational performance across 29 sites and 4 maltings.

Overview and Responsibilities:- Continually provide technical insights to improve and enhance the quality performance of Malt distilling, whilst driving efficiency and yield. Notwithstanding insights and considerations of cost, environmental and energy targets.- Work closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational quality and efficiency performance across 29 sites and 4 maltings.- Develop and support transformational initiatives in partnership with operations to sustain and enhance efficiency & quality performance into the future.- Benchmark internally and externally to identify new technical insights to unlock quality and efficiency performance pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance.- Build working relationships with a technical network across our Scotch category.- Understand the business strategy and priorities to deliver cross functional solutions.- Work in conjunction with other technical specialists to share practices, codify processes and enhance performance.- Build and sustain working collaborations with functional partners within Scotch (Process engineering, project engineering, risk & governance, procurement, science & technology) to deliver comprehensive solutions to challenges.- Work closely with operations to maintain high standards in quality management to ensure all governance & compliance requirements are met (ISO, HACCP, TACCP) maintaining all departmental processes to ensure that outcomes align with an integrated quality assurance system.- In conjunction with Malt Distilling Technical Manager and Technical Business Partners, develop technical strategy to support the long-term vision of technical within malt distilling and ensure Capex requirements are mapped to sustain and improve performance and capability for the future

Key Accountabilities:
Upholding Standards Through Practices- Demonstrate principled aim to improve quality and efficiency performance across Malt Distilling

Problem Solving for Performance- Support CI and problem-solving activities by providing / utilising technical knowledge and experience presented in a logical and codified way utilising data & analytical techniques and tools- Coach Partners and customers to improve technical understanding and capability- Encourage a growth mindset to problems faced and empower people to take ownership- Role model and champion the use of data and analytics tools and systemic root cause problem solving tools within Malt Distilling- Identify need for multi -disciplinary problem-solving teams to address systemic problems

Leading Change for Continuous Improvement- Paint a compelling vision of the future keeping abreast of advances within the industry scan the horizon for opportunities- Manage relationships to achieve world class performance outcomes

Skills and Experience Required:
- Degree level qualification or equivalent in Science related field or qualified through validated experience- IBD Diploma in Distilling or equivalent- Full driver’s license- Experienced in leading and delivering projects within a functional team- Consistent track record in delivering technical support and advice- Experienced in working in partnership with an operational environment- Proven record of great engagement and communication skills- Experienced in statistical analysis tools, turning data into insights & actions

It would be beneficial, but not essential to have experience in the following:
- Lean / Six Sigma qualification and or experience would be helpful

The role will cover a standard working week and will be based from Moray House, Elgin, and will be required to travel to our operational sites as the need arises.
