**Hours**:Part-time, 20 hours per week with weekend cover on a rota.

**Salary**: £10.88 per hour

**Purpose**

Walesby Forest is recruiting for a grounds person to join its highly skilled and respected team that is responsible for the sustainable management of all grounds on the site.

This role is looking for a person with horticultural qualifications and experience to provide maternity cover for our resident horticulturalist.

Reporting to the works manager, the role requires a practical and motivated person with horticultural disciplines or forestry, grassland experience to deliver the annual maintenance programme. Specialist advice will be available from a professional external consultant on a regular basis.

**Specifics of the Role**

Habitats:

- Help deliver the protection and care of habitats
- Deliver the maintenance plan for all our grounds
- Develop the grounds for the betterment of local wildlife
- Break the annual programme down into monthly and weekly working schedules
- Deliver practical grounds maintenance work to protect and enhance the site
- Prioritise work that needs to be done to continually improve the standard of the grounds
- Plant, weed and maintain all public areas

- To engage with guests, be an easily identifiable member of the staff team, and help create lasting memories for everyone
- Inspire others to love this beautiful place

Health and Safety:

- Be responsible for all ground’s equipment and machinery
- Ensure PPE is sufficient and suitable for all tasks in hand
- Keep all grounds vehicles in a good, clean, safe and functional order
- Oversee the routine cleaning and lubrication of plant and equipment
- Promote strict procedures related to all grounds care equipment, storage areas and site vehicles
- Take responsibility for your personal safety and the safety of others affected by your work
- Ensure that health and safety is complied with across all working areas
- Work safely, with risk assessments and comply with safety procedures

General:

- Assist other service teams as requested by a colleague or manager

Personal Specification

Knowledge:

- Ability to deliver a grounds management plan for the site
- Understand the basic principles of forest management and horticulture so that you can undertake work to the correct standards
- Understand the logistics of grounds maintenance and can use your knowledge to organise your own work

Experience
- At least one years’ experience in a similar role is essential
- Having chainsaw experience and certification including chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting. CS30 & CS31
- Wind blow experience and medium tree felling CS32 would be advantageous
- Use of powered hand tools
- Driving agricultural tractor and other plant vehicles

Skills and Competencies:

- Full driving license with permission to tow a trailer
- Certificate in horticulture or landscaping desirable
- Certificate PA1 and PA6 in pesticide use is desirable
- Ability to carry out instructions, tasks and follow procedures
- Flexible approach to working patterns and changing circumstances
- Team player but also happy to work alone when required
- Good sense of humour and a positive outlook
