This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, dedicated and award winning Health and Safety Team at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The role is to assist the Head of Health and Safety in providing advice on best practice, legislative requirements, and compliance with the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy.

The post holder will promote a positive Health and Safety culture across the Trust and will improve and maintain the service provided and play an active part in developing proactive safety culture, effective initiatives and strategies in the reduction of incidents.

The post holder will act as the deputy to the Head of Health and Safety on Trust working groups and committees. A key aspect of the role is to supervise the respirator face fit testing service and line manage the fit test support worker, reporting progress as appropriate. There is also the requirement to carry out a rolling program of Health and Safety Audits across Trust settings, making recommendations and following up on identified actions.

The main roles and responsibilities of the role include;
- Support the Head of Health and Safety in implementing, developing and monitoring health and safety issues in order to develop a positive health and safety culture throughout the Trust
- To advise the Trust’s managers and staff on relevant legislation and best practice
- Providing specialist support and advice on health and safety and risk management to relevant committees.
- Provision of expert training, guidance and instruction on risk assessment and health, safety and welfare matters for all business units and staff at all levels to ensure that the Trust minimises risk, meets its statutory obligations and achieves high safety standards; to include Trust New Manager induction, apprentice inductions, health and safety awareness, Risk assessment, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), incident investigation process and risk management etc.
- Carrying out safety inspections and audits across Trust sites: making recommendations and following up on actions.
- Deputising for the Head of Health and Safety in their absence
- Undertake workplace and task specific risk assessments and action findings in accordance with Trust processes/guidelines
- Investigating Health and Safety incidents, providing expert advice in terms of actions.
- Ensure compliance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) through preparing COSHH Risk Assessments.
