The Pharmacy Assistant (ATO) will be responsible for assembling orders from wards, departments, clinics and health centres, under the supervision of the Senior Pharmacy Assistant (SATO). To dispense under the direct supervision of the Dispensary Manager or Deputy any designated prescriptions.

The post holder will be based in the Pharmacy and will have either completed the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent, or be signed off as competent by a supervising Pharmacist if covered by the Grandparent Clause.

You will have a variety of duties within the department, involving the supply of medicines to patients, wards and departments within the Trust.

As part of a team you will perform tasks such as assembling the stock orders, you will also be involved in the dispensing process which will include producing labels using the computer system Ascribe and dispensing medication for patients.

**Key Responsibilities Distribution**:

- To participate in the top-up system including visiting wards and clinics and ensuring that a supply is made against an agreed stock list.
- To input stock into the Omnicell cabinets on wards.
- Assemble & distribute stock items to wards, departments, clinics and health centres. To ensure that all medicines are dispensed in accordance with the relevant legislation, local standard

operating procedures, and local Medicines Policy.
- To assist the storekeeper in putting away goods received into the department.
- To goods receive medicines on to the pharmacy system in the absence of the storekeeper.
- To ensure good stock rotation and carry out monthly checks of expiry dates of all goods. To notify the Purchasing Manager of any excess stock and slow moving lines.
- To order BOC Medical Gases in absence of storekeeper.
- Accurately dispense and issue prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist or accredited checking technician.
- To comply with COSHH and manual handling regulations
- To participate in Weekend, late and Bank Holiday rotas at St Charles’ hospital.
- Administrative responsibilities
- Filing away all prescriptions and maintain archiving
- Distribute post
- General housekeeping duties
- Dispose of medical waste in accordance to Waste Management Policy

**Communication**:

- To ensure information is provided in a timely manner, to the appropriate individual (in accordance with the degree of urgency of the request or issue identified).
- To attend CNWL Pharmacy Staff Education meetings.
- To take messages from hospital staff and answer any queries or pass on queries to the appropriate staff member

**Other Duties**:

- To participate in local and regional training schemes where appropriate.
- To be responsible for self-development in conjunction with the senior pharmacy staff.
