Kitchen Assistant

We are looking for a kitchen assistant to join our fun and friendly team at Little Smarties Nursery in Bishops Cleeve.

The hours for this role are normally 8-2pm although we can be flexible on times and days for the right person.

The job role will include:

- To follow the lead of the Nursery Chef by supporting the daily running of the kitchen
- Ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic
- Cleaning the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas
- Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately
- Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients
- Washing, peeling, chopping, and cooking foodstuffs and helping to prepare crudités, snacks, and desserts
- Complete morning (and afternoon if applicable) fridge and freezer temperature checks. Record this on the “Safer Food Better Business” log.
- Preparing breakfast each morning including preparing porridge
- Stepping in and acting as a temporary chef in the unlikely event that our main chefs are ill or on holiday. Note that support would be provided in these rare cases to simplify the menus and we would use our best endeavours to provide extra staff in the kitchen to support.
- Delivering food to the rooms on the trolleys provided and communicating all allergy/intolerance special meals for relevant children to the staff within the room
- Ensuring that the food delivered to the rooms is appropriate for the children in the rooms in terms of allergies/intolerances and served on red plates/bowls/cups with the child’s label as per our allergy management policy
- To inform the health and safety officer of any dietary changes if there are any mistakes or updates required
- Adhering to the Allergy Management policy at all times
- Disposing of rubbish and recycling
- Organising the nursery laundry

**Job Type**: Zero hours contract

**Salary**: £10.12 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- No weekends

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Bishops Cleeve, GL52 8JR: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
