Job overview

This is a newly created post within the Estates & Facilities Management Team responsible for Health and Safety compliance across all NUH sites (QMC, City and Ropewalk House)

The post holder will be responsible for setting, monitoring and reporting the Estates Departments Compliance, with respect to Health and Safety, in line with Trust policies. The successful individual will be expected to provide specialist expert advice and provide written reports to the Estates and
Facilities Directorate and the Trust Health and Safety team.

To deliver and support the implementation of health and safety processes as a mechanism for improving quality and safety in all aspects of Estates Operations.

To support the Estates team in understanding and managing health and safety risks and their mitigation, and statutory Health and Safety responsibilities.

To support the dissemination of learning from all Health and Safety activity in order to improve standards of compliance and organisational awareness.

Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Qualified to degree level, honours degree or Vocational qualification level 6 or an equivalent level of knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent;

Desirable criteria
- Chartered membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
- Experience in Emergency Planning

Experience

Essential criteria
- Proven track record of Health & Safety Management in a large / complex organisation
- Strong working knowledge of RIDDOR
- Understanding and proven track record of incident investigation, learning and improvement
- Proven record of the identification and control of workplace hazards
- Experience of Health & Safety auditing and inspection

Desirable criteria
- Experience of Emergency Planning practices and techniques.
- Experience of specialised requirements for laboratories and healthcare environments

Communication

Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Aptitude to communicate complex information to colleagues in a clear and precise manner

Analytical and Judgement

Essential criteria
- Ability to analyse information, organisational processes and projects within the context of Health and Safety; recommending the best course of action for the Trust

Planning and Organisation

Essential criteria
- Ability to work to, negotiate and co-ordinate deadlines in a variety of teams to meet local, Trust and National targets
- Good time management skills including the ability to prioritise, plan and manage a large workload

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a variety of environments some of which may be unpleasant Ability to work at a computer Ability to travel between campuses and to other external organisations as required

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
