Do you have a few hours to spare? Julia’s House, the Dorset and Wiltshire Children’s Hospice charity is seeking volunteers to help maintain the lovely gardens at the Dorset Hospice in Corfe Mullen.

Tasks include weeding the flower beds, restocking and sourcing new plants when required, cutting the grass, watering the garden and making sure the garden areas are clean and tidy for the families under our care to enjoy.

The hospice rely on volunteers throughout the week and are currently looking for support one to two hours per week, with possible seasonal variations. This opportunity offers considerable time flexibility however we would ask for a one-year commitment if possible.

Volunteering has lots of benefits from building confidence to reducing stress and is a great way to make friends and have fun.

Due to the nature of this role we would like you to have a basic knowledge of plant care, use of gardening tools. A reasonable level of fitness is desirable as there is some heavy lifting and you will often be on your feet for some time during your shift. It’s a great feeling to be supporting your local community and will make all the difference to the children and families we care for locally. We would love to hear from anyone who has a few hours to spare.

Person specification:

- A basic knowledge of plant care and use of gardening tools.
- A reasonable level of fitness.
- A good understanding of relevant health and safety issues.
- Friendly, approachable and supportive individual - prepared to ‘have a go’ at things
- Organised, proactive and a team player
- Flexible
- Happy to work outside in all weathers
