**Inspector Promotion

West Midlands Police is the second largest police force in the country, covering an area of 348 square miles and serving a population of almost 2.8 million people.
The region sits at the very heart of the country and covers the three major centres of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. It also includes the busy and thriving districts of Sandwell, Walsall, Solihull and Dudley. Leisure, retail and conference amenities, together with Premiership and Championship football teams, attract millions of visitors annually. The West Midlands is an area rich in diversity, attracting an average of 170,000 motorists travel through the region daily, making its motorways some of the busiest in Europe.
The Force deals with around 2,000 emergency calls, 500 Immediate incidents, 250 Priority incidents and around 950 reported crimes each day, which makes working as an Inspector both challenging and hugely rewarding.

**The opportunities**

West Midlands Police are looking for around 40 Inspectors to fill roles across the force area and functions. Priority vacancies are in FCID, PPU, Custody, Operations and LPAs; we anticipate more than half of the vacancies that we will be posting into will require 24/7 working.

To be successful in these roles you must have real strengths in:

Driving performance and high standards, leading team key performance indicators and ensuring professional standards and ethical behaviours which effectively deliver sustained outcomes.

Operational leadership, to lead, motivate and engage diverse teams and promote workforce wellbeing
**Partners**
Collaboration, to develop and maintain relationships with colleagues, communities and partners to drive collaboration across policing and wider public services provision.

**The Selection Process**:
The selection process will consist of the following stages:

- Application form questionnaire and written evidence submission. This will be used for shortlisting.
- The interview will be in front of a Chief Superintendent and Superintendent

**Interview
**The interview will consist of:
A pre-prepared ten-minute operational briefing on the following:
‘You are promoted to a Response team within Birmingham LPA. Your Ch Supt and Supt have asked for your plan on how you will support the Force’s response to robbery on your team, covering people, partners and performance’.

You will have ten minutes for this briefing. This is not a presentation and therefore you will not require any slides but can refer to your notes throughout.

This will be followed by questions from the panel.
