**Job Title: Trainee Gateway Practitioner**

**Salary**:£19,258 to 23,139 depending on experience (plus on call payments)

**Report to**:Service Manager

**Responsible for**:Volunteers

**Main Purpose**:
To provide a high-quality frontline service to all victims of domestic abuse. To provide frontline and first point of contact for victims of domestic abuse, ensuring that they receive and are referred to appropriate services.

- To maintain high standards of professionalism and keep abreast of current legislation, standards, best practice and maintain a focus of continuous improvement.

**Main Tasks**:
**You will work with a qualified practitioner and initially assist in the delivery of the listed tasks but as your skills and competency grow you will begin to undertake these tasks independently. At the point when you have completed your formal training successfully and demonstrated competency in all of the areas listed you will become a qualified practitioner and be paid at the qualified rate**:

- Identify and assess the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence
- based risk identification checklist.
- Provide a pro-active service through individual safety planning and personal support.
- Work with all victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe.
- Advocate on the behalf of victims with agencies who can help to address the domestic abuse by**: **Understanding the role of all relevant statutory and non-statutory services available to domestic abuse victims and how your role fits into them.**:

- Providing advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to victims including in relation to legal options, housing, health and finance.
- Working directly with all key agency partners to address the safety of high risk victims and ensuring that their safety plans are coordinated particularly through the MARAC.
- Support the empowerment of the client and assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation, and help them regain control of their lives.
- To ensure that all Safeguarding measures are delivered in respect of the client and their children and that at all times you adhere strictly to Safer Places policies and procedures in respect of Safeguarding Adults and Children
- Working as part of a team take responsibility as part of that team for the day to day running of the service, fulfilling whatever role is allocated to you by your line manager including ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are managed appropriately
- In accordance with Safer Places’ policy: Be proactive with your line manager in carrying out periodic reviews based on a review of risk and abuse which:

- Feeds back into action planning to further progress and;
- Provides feedback to your clients/agencies.
- Help maintain accurate and confidential records _and _databases and contribute to monitoring information for the service.
- Support colleagues and partner agencies, through awareness raising and institutional advocacy, in order to provide the best possible service for victims of domestic abuse.

**General**
- The role holder will be expected to perform any other duties that may reasonably be asked of them.
- To participate fully in “on call” as required in the delivery of contingency plans outside of the normal shift pattern
- The role holder will be able to work within the Safeguarding arena following organisation policies and procedures, be able to Recognise; Respond to; Report and Record Safeguarding issues and understand and make quality Safeguarding Referrals.
- Comply with data protection legislation, confidentiality and information sharing policy and procedures and all legislation connected to your work.
- Respect and value the diversity of the community in which the services works in, and recognise the needs and concerns of a diverse range of survivors ensuring the service is accessible to all.
- Remain up-to-date and compliant with all organisational procedures policies and professional codes of conduct and uphold standards of best practice.

Experience of working with vulnerable groups - Desirable

Experience of working on a help/emergency line - Desirable

Experience of working in a team - Essential

Experience of customer service - Essential

Working directly with victims of domestic violence - Desirable

**KNOWLEDGE**

Have a good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children - Desirable

Have theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse and their children - Desirable
