Garden Centre Assistant

Glossop Garden Centre is an independent successful garden centre and we are currently seeking a Garden Centre Assistant for our business.

This position would suit a highly motivated, flexible, hardworking individual with a keen interest, knowledge and experience in plants, gardening and horticulture.

You will be able to work in a team but also on your own initiative, possess excellent customer service and communication skills and keep calm under pressure. A reasonable level of numeracy and literacy is expected.

You will be comfortable with outdoor work in all weather and manual labour tasks. The position can require heavy lifting of compost, gravel bags and garden furniture.

A driver's licence is a requirement for errands & deliveries. A fork lift licence/experience would be advantageous for unloading & movement of stock.

**Responsibilities**:

- Working with the garden centre team to deliver excellent customer service.
- Operating EPOS tills, handling money & card payments daily.
- Serving and advising customers in person and over the phone.
- Cross selling of products to customers.
- Assist customers with carry to car service ( can involve heavy lifting ).
- Taking customer enquiries and dealing with complaints in a positive manner.
- Receiving and checking supplier deliveries.
- Creating attractive, inspiring indoor and outdoor displays to ensure products are merchandised to their fullest potential especially during our seasonal peaks at Springtime and Christmas.
- Moving goods and stands within the store.
- Pricing of stock and replenishing shelves.
- Watering plants.
- General garden centre maintenance including cleaning of public and staff-only areas, ensuring all aspects of the garden centre are safe and well presented.
- Other garden centre duties as requested by managerial staff when appropriate/necessary which are considered to be within your skills and competences.

**Hours**:
0930 to 1700 Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday ( 28 hours excluding rest breaks ). This will include bank holidays as the Garden Centre is a 7 days a week operation. A willingness to work additional hours as needed during our Spring and Christmas peak trading periods.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £11.44 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 28 per week
