Ballifeary House is a highly regarded, small and friendly, 24-bed residential home, which belongs to the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Our function and purpose is aimed at providing a non-institutional, Christian atmosphere; one that is caring, relaxed and happy. This atmosphere is homely and respects the individuality, dignity and rights of privacy of each individual and it encourages and enables residents to achieve their potential capacity - physically, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

We provide a home from home service for our older-adult residents and our housekeeping staff contribute hugely to the overall function of the Home.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic General Assistant to join our team. This would involve working in our kitchen, laundry and with the domestic team.

Ideally you will have experience of kitchen, domestic work and laundry duties and can demonstrate an ability to work to very high standards and can pay high attention to detail to comply with Infection Prevention and Control standards. However full training will be given.

Your role will involve spending time in residents’ rooms, so possessing a sensitive and empathetic nature and ability to build good relationships with residents is essential.

You must also be reliable and have flexibility to work between the hours of 8am and 9pm, including weekend work, which is essential, along with providing cover during holiday periods. Shifts will be a mixture of an 8 hour earlies (8-4pm) or 7 hour lates (2-9pm) each week, depending on the area you are required to work in.

**Job Description**:
**JOB TITLE**:GENERAL ASSISTANT**

**REPORTING TO**:Matron**

**JOB PURPOSE**: The General Assistant will work across the kitchen, laundry and domestic teams in the Home, participating in general duties in accordance with the requirements identified by the Matron and senior staff. They are required to contribute to achieving the highest standards of work in supporting the cook(s) in the kitchen, the cleanliness of the Home, and the laundry requirements of the residents.

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS**

**Required**:

- Kitchen Assistant, domestic or laundry experience preferred; however, the post would also suit a school leaver willing to learn and experience work across 3 very different areas of the Home while supporting the high quality of care provided for our residents.
- Genuine interest in working with older adults
- To be flexible, willing and have a ‘can do’ attitude
- To be prepared to work across all 3 areas (domestic, laundry and kitchen)
- To be able to work shifts, including weekends
- Good communication skills and be able to follow instructions
- To possess a kind and caring disposition
- To work within a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of each resident
- To ensure the Christian ethos of the Home is maintained

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. To have a working knowledge of the homes Health and Safety, COSHH and Environmental Health regulations

2. To have a working knowledge of the homes policies and procedures in respect to your job

3. To carry out kitchen, domestic and laundry duties as required in the Home and as delegated by the Senior staff

4. When assisting in the kitchen, to assist with basic food preparation, service of food, paying particular attention to presentation (consideration will be given to your skills and status when requesting you perform these duties).

5. To have a knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe working practices associated with kitchen, domestic and laundry duties

6. To be trained 1-2-1 on the use of industrial equipment according to Health & Safety procedures

7. To clean and sanitise associated equipment paying particular attention to the control of bacteria

8. To be in control of the cleaning routine making sure your area of responsibility is thoroughly cleaned

9. To inform the Matron when stocks of cleaning materials need replenished

10. To report any maintenance defects, security problems or fire hazards

11. To dispose of waste in accordance with the homes waste disposal policy

12. To attend staff meetings and help generate a good working atmosphere

13. To undertake regular training and attend yearly review and support meetings.
