Glasgow, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

Applicants are invited for a permanent 0.6wte (22.5 hours) Band 8b Clinical Psychologist based within the Paediatric Psychology team at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

This is a new lifespan post funded by NHS National Services Division for the National Scottish Inherited Metabolic Disorders service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone
with significant experience in providing psychological intervention for physical health conditions and with a passion for service development and multi-disciplinary working.
The successful applicant will provide psychological assessment and intervention to children, young people and adults with Inherited Metabolic Disorders from across Scotland who are under the care of the multi-disciplinary National Inherited Metabolic Disorders service and will work closely with the Lead Consultant in Inherited Metabolic Medicine and the other members of the multidisciplinary IMD team. The successful applicant will have a key role in developing the new embedded psychology service within the established Inherited Metabolic Disorders service; including scoping out psychological service priorities and needs, developing referral criteria, developing care pathways and auditing the psychology provision of the service in order to provide annual reports to NSD.

The post will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children on the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus, Glasgow and may require occasional travel to other hospitals within Scotland as well as delivery of virtual clinics.
The successful applicant will join a well-established and growing team of around 19 psychologists within Paediatric Psychology providing a strong and supportive professional
structure with good supervision. As a band 8b, the successful applicant will become part of the senior staff group within the Paediatric Psychology service, working alongside other Band 8b psychologists within the team and under the supervision of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Lead for Paediatric Psychology. Paediatric Psychology forms part of a network of around 80-90 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and a much larger psychology workforce across the care groups in the health board.

There are good links with both the Glasgow University Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology and the Edinburgh University MSc course in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People and there will be regular opportunities to supervise both doctoral and MSc trainees. In addition to direct clinical work, the post-holder will be expected to provide supervision to other psychologists within the team and to increase paediatric psychology capacity for direct psychological intervention across the hospital by supporting multidisciplinary clinical colleagues through consultation on psychosocial care; contributing to MDT and ward meetings; and teaching and training activities including delivery of the NHS Education for Scotland TIPSPH (Training in Psychological Skills - Paediatric Healthcare) modules.
