Junior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery

The post holder will assist in providing a clinical service in elective and emergency General Surgery to the population of East Lancashire and the adjoining areas. This will include the provision of care for in-patients both pre and perioperatively.
The roles include out of hours work on the on-call rota which is 1:16 on a full shift system. It covers emergencies for ENT, General Surgery, Urology and Vascular as part of the Surgical Out of Hours Service (SOS).
The roles are primarily ward based however include the opportunity to assist in theatres along with general and specialist out-patient clinics.
**Duties will include**:
Provide a patient centred service, respecting the privacy, dignity and choice of individual patients.
Responsible with general surgery colleagues for the provision of Emergency general surgery services.
Aim to deliver high quality care with the help of the existing surgical team.
Share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.
Participate in the weekly-on-call system of care under the EWTD guidelines.
Observe and comply with clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures (including local and national employment and personnel policies) agreed with employees and management.
Closely involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance issues.
Undertake research in the department.
Provide support for junior colleagues in the department including FY1s and Medical Students.
So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post-holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, and exceptionally to perform additional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
The post is mainly based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital however you may be required to attend Burnley General Teaching Hospital or one of the peripheral sites for theatre lists and outpatient clinics

We are a nationally accredited Centre for Endometriosis and Uro-Gynaecology Surgery.
The Directorate of Vascular and General Surgery provides inpatient, emergency and day case surgery to the catchment population. All major surgery takes place at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital where we are supported by a 32 bedded Critical Care Unit run by specialist Intensivists and a full range of diagnostic and interventional radiology services. We also have a dedicated Vascular Ward.
All surgical ambulatory emergencies are managed in our Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (SAECU) on a 24/7 basis. Our 32 bedded Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU) manages all surgical emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
