**FLEXIBLE WORKING**

This role includes flexibility about the balance of remote working or worked based in our church office (RG7 3BU).

This role includes flexibility about working patterns - with a full range of options including spreading hours across five days, or working on across two days.

Attendance at a very limited number of evening meetings would be useful during the year (a Church meeting in October and in May, and up to three other meetings with groups or stakeholders).

This role reports to the minister, or the senior steward in their absence.

**BACKGROUND**

Our congregation has been growing over the last few years. There were 50 of us in 2019, and nearly 100 now.

Over the 200 years that we’ve been sharing faith in Burghfield Common, God has brought to this fellowship those who pray, those who bake, those who preach, those who give, those who lead Sunday School, those who play music, those who visit the sick, those who host bible studies, those who broadcast on youtube, those who invite friends, those who give lifts, and those who welcome at the door.

Right now, though, we don’t quite seem to have enough of those who can organise and administer.

Our leadership team is quite small, and slightly too much administration sits upon the shoulders of slightly too few. Our minister works full time in a local secondary school, and is always stretched.

Might you be able to bridge some of our administrative gaps as we continue to grow?

**PURPOSE**

To coordinate and support information sharing, communication and administration so as support our mission and fellowship. This will particularly involve:
Handling enquiries so that the community around us feel cared for.

Connecting people appropriately and signposting care effectively.

Providing support for events, activities, financial management and logistics.

Managing a diary for the church, and supporting the minister with appointments.

Keeping our web presence, mailing list and whatsapp groups up to date with news.

**EXPECTED RESPONSIBILITIES**

Liaise with volunteers who manage bookings, property, finance, safeguarding and Sunday School to help with bookings, payments, communications and rotas.

Provide links via the church’s communication platforms to appropriate ‘word for the day’ Bible readings, or prayer resources.

Help the minister send updates for congregation, consolidate sermons and resources, attend to quarterly expenses claims or purchases, and manage occasional wedding or funeral arrangements.

Liaise with regular users of our premises, such as the volunteer bureau and the community café to ensure smooth operation, and to do so as a witness to God’s kindness and grace.

Invoice others who hire the premise, and arrange for someone to unlock/lock up or pick up keys.

Occasional presence at the Chapel to meet with maintenance contractors or facilitate meetings. Travel to any meetings away from the church will be reimbursed at 45p per mile

Help to keep the church connected with our wider Methodist circuit of congregations across Reading, Basingstoke and Newbury, and with local and with international partners.

Organise printing and publication of key posters and appropriate publicity (for example for Easter & Christmas).

Contribute to the planning for special events, such as Youth weekends, holiday clubs or significant Sunday services.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

Above all else we need a team player who is unfailingly sensitive and caring in their communication. We need someone with excellent organisational and IT skills. Exceptional written communication is essential for this role, as is numeracy and familiarity with excel. Our administrator must be able to handle confidential information.

We imagine that this role would suit a ‘people person’ with excellent IT skills: an individual who cares for those they work with and who prides themselves on their efficiency
