The postholder would be joining a team of Medical and Clinical Oncologists and Clinical Nurse Specialists in the relevant Health Board multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) as well as the tumour-site specific teams based at Velindre Cancer Centre. Other interests including education, training and clinical trials can be included in the job plan according to applicant’s area of interest.

One session will be spent at UHW, working with the multidisciplinary AOS team providing senior clinical review and oversight of acute oncology patients admitted in the health board. Average number of patients requiring consultant review is 3-4. AOS administrative support is provided.

A dedicated AOS SPA session ensures time for leadership, education, training and research.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Skin Cancer -The post holder will be responsible for managing patients referred to Medical Oncology for skin cancer treatment requiring systemic anti-cancer therapies. This will predominantly be melanoma patients, but may include other skin cancers treated with systemic therapies. Together with another consultant medical oncologist, the post holder will attend the C&V UHB Skin Cancer MDT, see new patients and oversee treatment plans.

Acute Oncology
- The post-holder will support the Acute Oncology service at Velindre Cancer Centre, including leading the post-take ward round, supporting the clinical team managing acutely unwell patients presenting to Velindre. This will entail one session, reviewing ward patients with the junior doctors, and providing senior review for unwell patients on the 4-bedded Acute Assessment Unit. There are 30 inpatient beds and 2 radio-isotope cubicles. There will be a handover to the on call team at the 12.30 AOS meeting.

The job plan contains 8 Programmed Activities per week on average at the locations specified below, and includes on-call at VCC (pro-rata, approximately 1:30). This is an outline timetable and you will discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Director within 3-6 months of your start date.
