**Job summary**:
This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of authorising veterinary medicines in the UK. You will be a veterinary assessor within the Efficacy Team, which is part of the VMD’s Authorisations Division.
- New marketing authorisations for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
- Variations to existing marketing authorisations
- Veterinary aspects of animal test certificates to conduct clinical field trials
This work will contribute to assuring the quality, safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products to assist the VMD in protecting animal health, public health and the environment. Your work will significantly contribute to the VMD meeting its published standards.
**Job description**:
Your main duties will be to:
- Scientifically assess efficacy and target species safety data for new marketing authorisations, animal test certificates, and variations for pharmaceutical veterinary medicinal products
- Prepare and peer review written assessment reports
- Present assessment reports to UK and international scientific committees
- Deal with enquiries and represent the Efficacy Team at meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain awareness of current developments, legislation and guidance affecting pharmaceutical veterinary medicines within National and International context
- Collaborate with members of the Authorisations Division to achieve the Division’s overall objectives and
- Contribute to wider VMD initiatives, such as training and development, publicity programmes, R&D programme
- Acting corporately - meeting, role-modelling, embedding and championing the corporate objectives set by the VMD and challenging others if they are not
Though these won't be part of your main duties, we may also ask you to:
- Contribute to development and revision of industry guidelines
- Contribute to the delivery of the VMD International Strategy (which may involve foreign travel)
- Contribute to the VMD’s Regulatory Science Strategy
- Contribute to the establishment of enhanced external regulatory and scientific networks through expert resourcing
- Contribute to work to ensure the continued availability of pharmaceutical veterinary medicines
**Person specification**:
You must have both the formal qualification and the experience set out below.
**Experience**
You will have extensive experience of the use and regulation of veterinary medicines in the UK gained from at least one of the following: experience of clinical veterinary work; experience in the pharmaceutical industry; experience as an assessor in another veterinary national competent authority; experience in academia.
You must have a good understanding of current animal health and topical veterinary issues.
You must have experience in scientific writing and data analysis.
You must have experience, or an awareness, of clinical veterinary work.
**IT Skills**
You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
You must be an effective user of the internet and have the aptitude to learn the use of the VMD’s bespoke IT systems.
**Memberships**
You must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or be eligible to become a member.
**Qualifications**:
