**Assistant SENCo**

Responsible to: Director of SEN

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, term-time only plus 1 week

**Salary**: Grade 8. Range 26 - 30 (£32,909 - £36,298)

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**

Dene Magna School continues to see a rise in the number of EHCPs in school. Whilst these EHCPs come with varying levels of support, they have clear guidance regarding reviews and consultations. We are looking for a passionate, knowledgeable person who can take on the organisation and running of the consultation/review process; liaising with staff to establish clear targets and ensuring that the outcomes of reviews are clearly communicated to staff and agencies in line with statutory requirements.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Working with the SENDCO and other staff to ensure the provision of the EHCPs are in line with legal requirements. This includes running the reviews in school
- Communicating with SENDCO, staff, external agencies and parents to ensure that there is effective partnership working and holistic approaches to the support of young people with SEND
- Leading small group literacy support and being able to report on the impact of these sessions
- Supporting students and staff in class where needed
- Develop positive working relationships with SEN students, understanding their needs to enable the role to be undertaken successfully.
- Support students consistently while recognising and responding to their individual needs
- Encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all students in activities
- Undertake general administration duties that support the teaching and learning of SEN students andsupport the strategic work of the SENCo. This includes maintaining filing system, produce and distribute re
- sources, templates as and when necessary
- Other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the Director of SEN

**KEY TASKS**
- Organise the EHCP consultation and review process, ensuring that all staff/agencies are aware of their duties regarding targets and feedback
- Undertake the planning and delivery of Annual Reviews for EHCPs and liaising with key staff over any agreed interventions/support as a result of the review meeting
- Lead on the school level response to EHCP consultations (alongside the Dir of SEN)
- Support transition alongside the Dir of SEN and Pastoral team to ensure the successful move from primary to secondary school/the transition between schools of pupils with additional needs in year
- Involvement in updating staff on students needs and strategies as part of the SEN briefing

Plan and lead 1:1 or small group literacy support sessions and interventions, such as:

- Fresh Start
- Lexia Online
- Spelling
- Handwriting
- Touch typing
- Precision teaching
- Line Manage and Appraise a given number of Teaching Assistants

**TRANSITION**
- Involvement in the consultation process, gathering information and speaking with relevant agencies before constructing a response, within the statutory timeframe
- Working with local primaries and post 16 settings to ensure a smooth transition for all SEND students
- Visiting local settings to gather key information on needs, support and resources as part of the transition process
- Ensuring all SEN information is gathered and key information shared with staff in the form of a pupil profile and current plans are made available on the school system
- Involvement in the primary transition conference meeting with key agencies and parents

**SUPPORT TO SCHOOL**
- Be aware of the latest updates in child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection in school and the processes of reporting any concerns
- Support and uphold all policies in school
- Be proactive with regard to career development and agree to using coaching observations as a means of improving practice (observing others and being observed)
- Participate in professional development opportunities and the performance management system (involving a skills audit and peer observations)
- Attend and participate in meetings as required
- Set the very best example in dress, attendance and behaviours
- Undertake other duties from time to time as required by the Headteacher
