Applications are invited for this post based in the Pathology Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will provide a supporting role to the professional clinical laboratory service.

The appointee would be expected to carry out (under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff) a wide range of routine laboratory and administrative tasks, which do not require the skill and training of a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, including the following:

- Processing a range of laboratory diagnostic specimens on patient samples following departmental SOPs.
- Operation of complex equipment
- Providing technical support to scientific staff in the Pathology laboratory
- Mentoring less experienced support workers and trainee staff.
- Specimen reception, acceptance, and registration processes.
- Providing support during tissue dissection
- Specimen processing including sample processing, tissue embedding, Tissue sectioning (microtomy), and routine staining.
- Participation in Patient Consultations at Andrology clinics
- General laboratory housekeeping, manual handling, and patient consultation during infertility clinics.

You will require good keyboard skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and a flexible approach to work. Experience of working in an NHS Pathology laboratory is desirable. Applicants should have or can demonstrate that they are working towards a minimum of a HND (or equivalent) in life sciences.

Weekend working on a rotational basis or shift system might be required.

Working patterns will be to the needs of the service and will be between 08.30 and 17:00 Monday-Friday.
