Lead Sonographer

We are looking for an enthusiastic sonographer who is keen on working in a new environment and willing to develop a sonography service that can truly meet the needs of the community. We are aiming for a 70-30 split of management and clinical for this role.
In this role you will be working at the Wood Green Community Diagnostic Centre, located at Wood Green Shopping City, right in the heart of vibrant Wood Green, a few minutes from the tube station and excellent transport links.

At this site, due to the clinical model we propose, we will not perform obstetrics scans but predominantly general medical, gynaecological, head and neck and MSK scans.

To lead and develop the general ultrasound service providing highly specialised professional advice to all grades of staff within the team, ensuring that staff are supported and operating a safe and efficient service.
To line manage and provide professional leadership of the ultrasound team; providing a high quality, patient focussed ultrasound service.
Working closely with the Imaging Services Manager, Lead Consultant Radiologist and other staff within the Trust, ensuring that service delivery is planned, organised and implemented effectively.
Provide specialist, professional advice pertaining to the ultrasound service.
The maintenance of a high standard of patient care and medical ethics is essential.
Responsible for the training and supervision of all staff within the ultrasound unit.
Supports innovations to develop the ultrasound service.
To work as an independent practitioner by performing ultrasound scans to a high diagnostic standard, providing a report and communicating the results to the appropriate clinician.
To communicate potentially distressing diagnoses direct to the patients, and to refer these patients appropriately.
To actively assist in the department audit and be responsible for research and clinical governance programmes.
Ensure personal development and improve professional expertise via continuous professional learning.

Professional Leadership
To be responsible for the professional leadership and management of all sonographers within the modality.
To ensure that the service delivery is patient focused and of the highest quality.
To ensure optimum efficiency and effective management of the sonographers within Imaging.
To assist in the formation of new policies, procedures and initiatives to improve current service delivery across all sites and aid in development of new services.
To encourage multidisciplinary team working ensuring effective channels of communication are open to all team members.
Use specialised knowledge to advise others on the effective delivery of service.
Clinical Responsibilities
Regularly undertake clinical work within Imaging
To ensure that examinations are carried out to the agreed standard of the Directorate.
To prioritise workload and facilitate booking of examinations considering the clinical indications for the request.
To provide clinical support /supervision to all staff working within the Directorate.
To always work in an efficient and effective manner.
To always behave in a professional manner.
To work flexibly based on requirements of service and in conjunction with other Modality Leads.
To work in conjunction with, and support, the Modality Leads in the formation of new policies, procedures, and initiatives to improve current service delivery across all sites and aid in the development of new services.
