**The job itself**:
About Us: Humber Forest is the Community Forest for Hull, East Riding and North Lincolnshire (one of 13 across England). It is a partnership that works to promote tree planting and create new woodlands across the region, with East Riding of Yorkshire Council as the accountable body.

We work with private and public landowners to increase tree cover for environment and community benefits on their land. We also engage with charities, businesses, community groups and residents of all ages to support and help deliver projects in their areas.

About the Role:
The Senior Policy Officer role has been created to meet the need for a Humber Forest 25-Year Forest Plan.

As part of the funding requirement, each of the 13 Community Forests are required to write a plan that will sit alongside and influence local council policy, as well as guide the planting ambitions of the community forest.

The role will require working with multiple departments in East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull City and North Lincolnshire councils to develop on existing policies within climate change, flood resilience, biodiversity, carbon reduction. Community forests also look at social and economic benefits of tree planting. The post will operate at high level to integrate afforestation into policy and align the forest plan with upcoming initiatives (LNRS and BNG).

The role will also work with external partners such as Defra, other community forests, Forestry Commission and Woodland Trust, and local stakeholders. It will also need to work within historical environment and ecological environment networks.

As this is a new role, you will have the flexibility and creativity to work with senior management to build the role and the work from scratch.

You will be working closely alongside the Partnership Manager and two Senior Project Officers, and with a wider team of project officers.

The role is a hybrid-working role, with a minimum of 2 days working from County Hall, Beverley.

You may also be required to travel outside of East Riding for other events.

About you:
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You will have the ability to create strong relationships as you will also be working closely with Humber Forest partners, such as Forestry Commission, Woodland Trust, and senior representatives from Hull City Council, North Lincolnshire Council, and internal senior East Riding of Yorkshire council departments.

You will have an interest in the environment and/or tree planting

You will be able to demonstrate managing your own workload effectively.

You will have the appropriate qualifications or experience

A driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required to be able to transport yourself around the area.
