We are looking for an experienced Executive Assistant to join the Leader's Office at Merton Council, providing direct support to the Leader. This is an exciting time to join Merton as it delivers its new long-term strategy around nurturing civic pride, building a sustainable future, and creating a borough of sport.

This is a key role that sits at the heart of Merton Council, supporting Cllr Ross Garrod, the Leader of the Council. You will be responsible for managing the Leader’s diary and ensuring efficient and effective use of his time, and supporting him in the meetings and events he attends.

With a new Leader of the Council, new Cabinet, new Chief Executive and new corporate management team, this is an exciting time to join the council as it delivers its new long-term strategy around nurturing civic pride, building a sustainable future, and creating a borough of sport.

You’ll be experienced at working for a senior leader, and operating in a political environment where you need to protect confidential and sensitive information and demonstrate political awareness, diplomacy and tact. You will be a self-starter who is able to work independently and show initiative. You will have good judgement and be a creative problem solver. You will have excellent organisation and planning skills, with experience of managing somebody else’s diary as well as how you manage and organise your own time and tasks. You will have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, and be confident in dealing with councillors, senior officers and members of the public, both verbally and in writing.
