Derbyshire County Council is seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Surveyor to join our team of property professionals. This exciting role involves managing a diverse portfolio of buildings including care homes, schools, libraries, offices, historic buildings, and industrial and land assets, supporting the delivery of core Council services across Derbyshire.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of surveyors and technical experts, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
- Property Asset Management: Support our new Property Asset Management Framework, reshaping Derbyshire’s varied property portfolio including historic listed buildings and the Derwent Valley World Heritage Corridor.
- Maintenance Management: Provide maintenance management and advice services, ensuring all projects and statutory compliance activities are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all legal and statutory requirements.
- Technical Expertise: Advise on complex technical aspects of new products, building methods, and procedures. Manage site surveys, feasibility studies, and investigations relating to structural problems.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external customers, including service departments, local authorities, schools, and academies, ensuring excellent customer service and effective communication.
- Financial Management: Monitor income and costs, ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements and the Departmental Business Plan. Produce statistics and reports for senior management.
**Essential Qualifications and Experience**:
- Professional Qualifications: Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent professional body qualification.
- Experience: Substantial post-graduate experience in a senior managerial or project management role within the surveying industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of regulations, legislation, British Standards, Health and Safety, and other relevant codes related to building maintenance and surveying.
- Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. Ability to manage and develop a team, ensuring all members understand their contributions and achieve set targets.
