**IGC Country Economist - Zambia**

The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. The IGC directs a global network of world-leading researchers and in-country teams in Africa and South Asia and works closely with partner governments to generate high quality research and policy advice on key growth challenges. Based at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and in partnership with the University of Oxford, the IGC is funded primarily by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The IGC is currently seeking a Country Economist to be based in Lusaka. The Country Economist will join a team including existing Country Economists, an Administrator, and an interim Country Manager to deliver IGC’s country strategy under the strategic direction of IGC’s Executive Director. The Country Economist will undertake economic analysis independently or under the supervision of leading researchers, identifying and developing opportunities for policy influence, connecting researchers with policymakers, and working on policy outputs. They support in facilitating research projects; track and report on the portfolio of research projects, manage country programme activities including events and reports on research and policy developments; contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the programme; support the dissemination of research outputs to maximise policy impact; and work on research projects where opportunities arise and interests match.

IGC Zambia’s current work focuses on public-sector effectiveness, taxation, urbanisation, mining, and agriculture productivity with emerging work in energy, sustainability, and place-based economic policies. IGC Zambia is the knowledge partner of the Presidency and has deep ties with the wider economic policy leadership. IGC Zambia also plays an increasing role in supporting the economic development dialogue in Zambia, such as through co-hosting the Economic Growth Forum with the Ministry of Finance. Leading academics are affiliated with IGC’s work in Zambia, including those based at LSE, Columbia, Stanford, and Oxford universities.

Applicants should have strong economics skills, including knowledge of both macro and micro-economics, excellent quantitative skills in economic analysis, sophisticated understanding of policy issues in developing countries, excellent communications and organisational skills, and hold a post-graduate degree (MSc/MPA/MPP/MA or PhD) in economics, development economics, public policy / administration finance, trade and industrial organization, or a related discipline. Knowledge and experience of Zambian policy issues would be an advantage.
