An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cardiology Department here at Dorset County Hospital. We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Healthcare Science Practitioner to join our friendly team on a fixed-term (3 year) contract.

On completing this apprenticeship successfully, you will have a BSc(Hons) in Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences), with recognition of the specialist pathway in cardiac physiology. The course is accredited by the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) and the National School of Healthcare Science as part of Health Education England.

This is great opportunity to 'earn and learn' and start a career in Cardiac Physiology.

The work involves a high level of patient contact, performing a variety of diagnostic investigations.

Undertake the Healthcare Science Practitioner (Physiological Sciences-Cardiology) Degree Apprenticeship (provided by UWE, Bristol). On successful completion of training the post-holder will be eligible for registration as a Cardiac Physiologist.

This is an exiting opportunity to work work within a dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team, earning a wage whilst gaining a fully funded degree.

On completing this apprenticeship successfully, you will have a BSc(Hons) in Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences), with recognition of the specialist pathway in cardiac physiology.

Healthcare Science Practitioner (Physiological Sciences) degree apprenticeship - Current higher and degree apprenticeships | UWE Bristol
- To learn to perform a limited range of routine cardiac investigations, ensuring technically acceptable results are achieved and processed, as necessary. This may involve direct and indirect supervision
- With regards to diagnostic testing, this may include performing ECGs, setting up and downloading 24-hour Holter monitoring and blood pressure monitoring,
- To assist with 24 hour ECG analysis, stress echo, exercise tests, cardiac catheterisation, device implants and clinics.
- To produce technically accurate results in accordance with local and national guidelines, adhering to safety and infection control policies.
- Administrative duties, including stock control and managing inpatient and outpatient appointments. (Allocating resources, including staff, to ensure efficient use.)
- Be responsible for the maintenance, quality assurance, and infection control equipment.
- Undertake the Healthcare Science Practitioner (Physiological Sciences-Cardiology) Degree Apprenticeship (requires attendance at UWE, Bristol).
- To provide education and training on performing ECGs to other healthcare professionals when deemed competent.
- To attend and present at departmental educational meetings.
