Dads Family Support Coordinator

Purpose of the job
- Understand the needs of Dads - as an individual and as a parent.
- Provide person centred support for Dads and their families, building on the success of the Home-Start model.

Main Responsibilities
Group Activities
- Plan, develop and facilitate a range of Dads’ Groups across Wakefield in partnership with NHS, schools, and other entities
- Develop and co-ordinate group activities responding to the matters that local dads have identified they wish to learn more about or have an opportunity to discuss.
- Provide multiple engagement pathways for a range of diverse local dads and support the building of their local connections.

Community Development
- Maintain relationships with programme relevant steering groups, attend relevant meetings, workshops, advisory groups and working parties related to supporting Dads.
- Develop community and sector capacity to respond to and support dads that face a complexity of issues and identify developmental activities to advance Dads’ ability to connect with the community.
- Represent the dads programme in the wider community and sector ensuring positive marketing and promotion of the programme and organisation.

Family Support
- Provide intensive, focussed support for Dads and their families struggling with a complexity of needs.
- Provide practical and emotional support for Dads in their own homes
- Support Dads to attend appointments.
- Provide support services for Dads including developing initial assessment and support plans
- Provide skilled and timely intervention for Dads in order to develop the family’s capacity to provide a safe and stable environment for the wellbeing of their child/children
- Take responsibility for developing a work plan and resource allocations
- Take responsibility for developing and preparing programme reports, statistics and recording for funders

Antenatal Workshop
Assist in the development and delivery of Dad-specific, antenatal workshop (training provided). Delivery requires flexible working hours to meet the needs of the service

General:

- Monitor and evaluate the service delivered against agreed targets and produce regular reports as required.
- Keep records to ensure information is available for monitoring purposes and general enquiries.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, keeping other members of staff informed and aware of issues affecting the scheme and its support to families.
- Network appropriately within the community.
- Adhere to Home-Start Wakefield’s policies and practice.
- Undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare as per the safeguarding policy and procedure.

This job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies the level of responsibility at which they will be required to work. The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the post as detailed above.

There may be occasional evening and weekend work.
