Job Introduction
**Are you a confident on-road cyclist with an interest in working with children?**
We have a job opportunity for a Cycling instructor to join our successful Cycle Training Team, delivering Bikeability cycle training programmes across the borough in a fun and inspiring way.
As a Cycling Instructor you will help encourage good cycling practice and cycle skills in both children and adults, giving them the confidence to ride individually or in a group and gain an understanding of how to ride safely on today’s roads and in accordance with the relevant National Standards Level set out by The Department for Transport. Training courses are run in primary schools and some Secondary schools across Solihull. Each session is usually 1.5 - 2hours in duration, with up to 3 sessions run across the school day in our larger schools. We also run courses in school holidays, and occasionally at the weekend or in the evening to support uniformed groups, adult training, family training and led rides in the community.
The role will appeal to individuals who enjoy any form of cycling and working with children. Successful applicants will have effective communication and interpersonal skills able to give clear instructions and respond to trainees needs. You must be physically able to walk and cycle distances of up to two miles on a frequent basis.
Whilst the post is offered on an annualised hours contract basis, we would prefer commitment to undertake full week bookings. You would not be required to work every week.
Working for Solihull means that we can also offer employees a great working environment, together with a range of benefits including an extensive wellbeing offer and attractive staff benefits including staff discounts and access to the Local Government pension scheme.
Interviews will include a short cycling assessment. You will need to bring your cycle & helmet or let us know in advance if you need to borrow one.
