Job description

This post is pivotal to the operation of the joint R&D Office of SLaM and the IoPPN (KCL).

Working as part of the R&D team, the post holder will provide performance and activity data support to the portfolio of research studies at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).

They will oversee the implementation and ongoing administration of the Local Portfolio Management System (LPMS), EDGE. They will also be responsible for producing accurate and timely analyses and producing reports for the R&D Manager, research teams, the Trust, and external bodies as required e.g. the South London CRN and NIHR.

The post-holder will work alongside and be responsible for the R&D Data Administrator.

We are looking for someone who is able to work independently, who enjoys working with data, and who works well collaboratively as part of a team.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation and ongoing administration of the Local Portfolio Management System (LPMS), Edge. This will include the responsibility for user interface, ensuring that staff in research delivery teams are up-dating Edge correctly, identifying data quality issues and addressing shortfalls.
- Demonstrate the use of EDGE and train colleagues and researchers.
- Develop proficiency in using and analysing external research databases managed by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN), including the Open Data Platform (ODP), Central Portfolio Management System (CPMS) and the UK CRN Portfolio Database. Be responsible for the reporting function of the SLaM research portfolio, including producing regular data, reports, analysis and presentations for National, Board, Trust and departmental levels, for use across a range of decision making, reporting and planning tasks.
- Co-ordinate the submission of external reports required by research regulators, including the quarterly Performance in Initiating & Delivery Report.
- Present data in an appropriate format to enable communication to a variety of audiences, ensuring that correct inferences are drawn from the data requirements.
- Produce ad hoc data reports as required by the R&D Director of Research Quality and R&D Research Governance Manager.
- Assist in the production of standard operating procedures and work instructions to support the development, management and use of research data systems.
- Drive the improvement in data quality and escalate any areas of non-compliance where appropriate. Perform data cleansing tasks as required to ensure accuracy of data and maintain data integrity
- To attend relevant research training and continuing professional development activities to ensure that work delivered remains effective, relevant and up to date.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Awareness of current legislation relating to research data issues

2. Excellent IT skills, including MS Excel

3. Strong problem-solving approach

4. Understanding the need for confidentiality

5. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

6. Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively to researchers and staff from different disciplines and administrators at all levels

7. Ability to communicate technical data information in an easily understood manner, with individuals at all levels

8. Ability to work as part of a team and operate in a multidisciplinary environment.

9. Ability to self-organise, multitask and prioritise

10. Ability to analyse complex datasets and ability to troubleshoot problems relating to data issues

Desirable criteria

1. Degree or equivalent

2. Knowledge and experience of working with research data, in particular, in the presentation of research data in accessible formats

3. Experience of an administration/ data management role in either NHS, academic or corporate environment with demonstrable achievement

4. Experience using the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI and Power Apps
