The Head of Education for Non-Medical (HOE-NM) is responsible for the provision of strong, visible professional leadership across the Trust, who fosters a culture of continuous improvement, compassion and excellence in all aspects of the delivery of patient care.

On behalf of the Deputy Chief Nurse/Chief Nurse, the HoE-NM will work across all the non-medical professions, mainly focusing on the nursing workforce group, however crossing over with Midwifery and AHP workforce leads, with the overarching corporate responsibility for the entire non-medical registered professional groups educational funding and provision.

The role will provide input into the Trust and the regional system and national plans on education provision clearly defining interdependencies to workforce provision and planning, with an aim to address workforce shortfall and build a sustainable future supply.

The post holder will also take responsibility and accountability for the Education of non-medical workforce groups, in partnership with other key stakeholders within the organisation. The post holder will ensure delivery of Continual Professional Development (CPD) education provision across the organisation in partnership with peers ensuring that the Trust have both a sustainable and appropriately trained and skilled workforce, which includes trajectory and oversight of financial spend from HEE, as well as the non-medical student tariff in liaison with financial teams personnel. Which overarching embeds good governance around contracting and commissioning for educational programmes within and outside the Trust.

To provide professional advice and support to divisional teams, with influence on expectations and standards to be achieved, by working in partnership to deliver collaboratively across organisational boundaries. However, this post does not have line management accountability to divisional teams, therefore working closely with Divisional Nursing Directors/heads of service. Demonstrate and role model professional leadership qualities to influence, negotiate and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to improve patient care and non-medical leadership. The development of new ways of working, to ensure the wards and departments have the non-medical clinical teams that are fit for purpose with underpinning education and proficiency. To achieve the Trust’s strategic vision and quality care delivery i.e. the right skills, at the right place, at the right time.

To work in collaboration with the Trust Learning and Development Team, to create learners numbers and experiences are maximised. Work closely with HEE and HEIs to ensure that there are sufficient commissioned numbers of pre-registration non-medical professionals, as well as ensuring the clinical workforce is supported in the continued development of clinical service.
