Do you have excellent skills in botanical surveying? Are you keen to speak to landowners about ways to improve their land management practices for wildlife benefit? Are you able to present your thoughts and ideas clearly in writing? If so, the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Environmental Records Centre (BMERC) has an opportunity for a **Local Wildlife Sites Surveyor**.

**About us**:
BMERC is a busy, professional team of five environmental specialists. Between us we support or deliver projects, collect, manage and provide data, train and work with volunteers, advise landowners, and work with stakeholders and counterparts locally and nationally. BMERC is one of 5 specialist teams that sit within the Planning and Environment service. Together we share a passion to protect, promote and manage the unique natural environment of Buckinghamshire.

Working with us will give you the chance to make a significant and lasting positive impact on the wildlife and people of Buckinghamshire, helping us to deliver our conservation objectives across the county. Come and join our fantastic team.

**About the role**:
In this role you will undertake botanical and habitat surveys, reporting on their condition and recommending designation to the Local Wildlife Sites Selection Panel. You will provide conservation management advice to landowners and stakeholders across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

Working with the rest of the team you will provide training, advice and support to colleagues and volunteers alike, promoting the benefits of Local Wildlife Sites and good quality conservation management in a wider forum.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Carry out specialist species and habitat surveys and recording on sites, in line with national guidance and methodologies ensuring that data are uploaded to BMERC database on a regular basis.
- Prioritise and organise survey efforts in pre-agreed target areas in liaison with other BMERC staff. This will include liaising with owners to arrange access and discuss site management.
- Collaborate with BMERC colleagues, external partners, volunteer recorders and local landowners for site and species information and local knowledge.
- Create reports for each site in standard format in line with local and national guidance, and to present same to regular Selection Panels.
- Prioritise and balance workloads to ensure surveys are carried out at optimal time of year, with mínimal wasted downtime between sites.
- Work with volunteers and stakeholders across a wide range of issues including habitat and species management, survey techniques, recording activities and community engagement.
- Respond to queries from colleagues, customers, volunteers and the public.
- Support the development and and implementation of efficient processes and procedures.

Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

**About you**:
The successful applicant will be self-motivated and confident to work alone in the field as well as in the office.

You will have a degree / HND (or equivalent) in ecology or a related field or at least five years of relevant experience, especially with botanical field surveys.

You will have a full driving licence to enable you to effectively undertake survey work, will work across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, and will be able to prioritise and organise your work to ensure deadlines are met.

**Other information**:
This is a part-time role, four days per week on a two-year fixed-term contract. There is potential for the contract to be extended.

Grade 5 £29,704 - £30,992

Closing Date 29 January 2023

We expect to notify shortlisted applicants and conduct interviews early in February. Interviews will be held in person and will consist of an exercise to test your surveying skills, and an in-person formal interview.
