We are looking to recruit an experienced Clinical Coder to join the Informatics team to support the Data Quality team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for specific service areas liaising with the consultants and their teams to resolve any coding issues, queries, problems, omissions, or inaccuracies. The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload including in times of pressure such as month end.
The post holder will be working to agreed timescales and both national and local data quality standards as set by the Trust. Responsible for coding clinical notes and discharge summaries, etc. they will ensure that all relevant information is abstracted, coded, and captured using the appropriate classification and coding methodologies, to enable the team to fulfil its contracting, epidemiological and statutory obligations for diagnostic (ICD-10) data capture. You will be working closely with clinicians, nursing, operational staff, and the data quality team to improve the standards and comprehensiveness of coding, and to pre-empt by resolving issues impacting data quality.
To ensure that coded information is entered onto Rio (the clinical system), in accordance with agreed standards. To use all other information systems available to find additional information and to ensure investigation results are coded to reflect accurate patient diagnosis.
To work on own initiative, manage own workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Take total professional responsibility for the codes allocated to the patient record.
To respond to service demands across Trust hospital sites by supporting the coding of activity and providing cover for staff absences.
To investigate where a discharge summary is incomplete, to be responsible for extracting the co-morbidities and other relevant supplementary information from complex medical notes including retrieving histological details to ensure specificity and completeness of the clinically coded

**The 3/4 “must haves” for you to be considered for this role**:
Minimum of 1 year’s clinical coding experience, covering a wide range of clinical coding specialities using ICD-10 coding classifications and standards
Evidence of attending the national clinical coding standards course provided
by an NHS approved trainer.
Ability to concentrate for long periods and be able to analyse complex sets of case notes.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical terms, and procedures.
