**Purpose**:
- To work alongside pharmacy technicians and under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
- To provide medicines-related and healthy lifestyle advice to patients as well as assisting in the smooth operation of the pharmacy.
- To accept, receive and give out prescriptions and prescription medication in line with company SOPs.
- To ensure the accurate, efficient and profitable operation of all dispensary processes.
- To support the achievement of Green Cross Chemists Limited’s business goals and objectives.
**Reports to**:Responsible Pharmacist and/or ACT, Technician
**Key responsibilities**:
- To be working towards or have completed an accredited NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) Pharmacy Services Assistant training course under the guidance of the pharmacist and technicians.
- To select, label and dispense pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements.
- To supervise any lesser qualified dispensary colleagues and be aware and clearly understand the role competencies and limitations of a Pharmacy Services Assistant.
- To maximise the utility of the role of a Pharmacy Services Assistant to the individual pharmacy’s best advantage.
- Providing a high level of customer service: helping and advising customers on general health enquiries and OTC product enquiries.
- Following company SOP’s for the receipt and issue of prescriptions as required by the GPhC.
- To ensure that the limitations and standards of the role of a Pharmacy Services Assistant are properly adhered to at all times.
- To be actively involved in the accuracy of monthly NHS prescription submissions, including counting accuracy and accuracy of NHS prescription filing and sorting as per NHSBSA requirements.
- To be actively involved in achieving maximum reimbursement through accurate dispensing, purchasing and endorsing procedures, including any specific instruction from line management.
- To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients.
- To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.
- To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist.
- To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within your competence.
- To receive stock in accordance with SOPs.
- To receive, sort, check and where necessary, spilt-up for transfer to other local branches all stock ordered for the branch.
- Whenever stock is transferred to another branch or shipped to a patient/customer sufficient time and care is taken in packaging to ensure that products are safe, secure and will not be damaged.
- To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.
- To assist in the management of stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the pharmacy environment.
- To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary care
- To assist with service provision to care homes and others including the preparation of Monitored Dosage Systems.
- To respond to symptoms described by customers by following agreed protocols and using own knowledge and judgement.
- To select and recommend suitable products and provide advice on their correct use.
- To provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
- To refer to the pharmacist when appropriate.
- To assist with the engagement of patients onto advanced services such as MURs and NMS.
- To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medicines and minor ailments by reading journals, product information and training resources.
- To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by needs of the business.
- Maintain high retail and dispensary housekeeping standards.
- Operating the till and card machines and maintaining an adequate cash float.
- Strictly adhering to company cash handling protocols and cashing up procedures.
- Ensure high standards of security practice within the pharmacy premises.
- Attend meetings or training events called by line management whether within or outside normal business hours.
- Providing a pastoral resource for colleagues. Helping, motivating and facilitating as appropriate.
- Undertake any additional duties associated with the conduct of the business when requested by line management.
**Personal specification**:
- To be working towards or have completed an accredited NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) Pharmacy Services Assistant training course under the guidance of the pharmacist.
