**JOB DESCRIPTION: SHIFT SUPERVISOR**

Main place of work: Massa's Dessert-Cafe-Bar, Chorley Town Centre

Responsible to: Branch Manager, Senior Management

Responsible for: Team Members

**PURPOSE OF POST**

The role of a shift supervisor is to not only be a confident team member, but to oversee all operations on their shift. To plan and prepare, delegate tasks, resolve problems, and make sure that everything goes smoothly for everyone during a given work shift. To offer induction and ongoing training for team members.

**KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Complete all roles and responsibilities outlined in the Team Member job description to an exceptionally high standard.

Greet each employee as they arrive for a shift, confirming if they are aware of updates and responsibilities; provide encouragement and evaluate job performance in a personal setting when necessary.

Assign tasks to team members throughout the shift, ensuring duties are distributed and rotated fairly.

Supervise team members to ensure that tasks are completed in good time and according to company and industry standards.

Open up and/or close the shop on time, completing all preparation and procedures, and direct team members in order for them to make useful contributions.

Participate in providing unbeatable customer service by welcoming and creating relationships with customers, answering questions, and pitching current promotions.

Maintain an organised and professional premises by setting the precedent of organising, cleaning, and adjusting displays that lack order.

Oversee daily cash management, including payments received and refunds given; producing end-of-day reports; storing cash safely; keeping track of and correcting discrepancies; fixing any till or card machine errors; protecting from theft.

Intervene in situations where a customer is dissatisfied with a product, or the service received; come up with viable solutions that reflect the company’s integrity and are beneficial to the customer.

Provide thorough induction and ongoing training to employees on all aspects of the job, and company policies, procedures and required conduct.

Manage inventory through keeping the shop stocked up and dealing with low stock promptly; bringing in items or arranging for them to be brought in; ordering from suppliers; collaborating with management to find the best deals and value.

Evaluate staff performance on an ongoing basis, provide mentorship and guidance or report to management where necessary.

Receive, check, and put away deliveries, reporting any issues immediately to the delivery driver, supplier or management until a solution has been reached.

Carry out administrative functions including stock management; documenting temperatures and responding to any issues; ensuring the correct use of the diary; waste management; use of cleaning and documents.

Communicate between team members and management to ensure all messages and feedback are passed on clearly and concisely.

Maintain a safe, productive, and positive working environment for all staff members.

Provide management with customer, company, and employee feedback, suggesting ways to optimise sales, improve productivity and efficiency, and streamline processes.

Have a major involvement in the implementation of new ideas and any extra projects set by management.
