**About Us**
We are seeking an experienced building surveyor or construction professional to join the Capital Projects Delivery Team as Construction Aftercare Management Officer.

The Capital Projects Delivery Team large scale building projects across the West Sussex estate, including schools, libraries, community hubs and fire stations etc. We are proud of our industry-recognised delivery model, recently listed as a Finalist in the Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards.

**About The Job** Salary**: £41,591 - £46,662 per annum
**Working Pattern**: Full time, 37 hours per week,
**Location**: County Hall, Chichester/ working from home

As our Building Surveyor you will be an integral member of the Capital Project Delivery Team. You will manage any issues arising from construction projects, including latent defects. You will work positively and proactively with the Council and contractors to investigate and facilitate the rectification of defects (patent and latent), and liaise with the designers and contractors to assess contractual liability and responsibility with stakeholders and project team members.

Working with the WSCC Multi-Disciplinary Consultant, you will instruct technical reviews and reports to investigate defects and prove latent defects. You will be expected to interpret reports and recommend the appropriate course of action for WSCC. Depending on circumstances you will need to appoint contractors and manage projects through to resolution.

You will occasionally have to travel around West Sussex to visit properties across the full estate, which includes schools, libraries, care homes, fire stations, etc. You will be expected to make initial inspections of buildings to be fully familiar with the issue and be able to appoint the appropriate consultant skill. All mileage will be reimbursed, or you can make full use of our Carpool programme.

**Experience and skills**
We are seeking a qualified construction professional with excellent stakeholder engagement and management, a pro-active and pragmatic approach to rectifying defects, strong organisational and communication skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team. You’ll need to be able to communicate and with and report to managers and stakeholders at all levels, and work closely with the WSCC legal team, as well as engaging with contract officers and facilities management teams.

You’ll need to demonstrate a good working knowledge of process management, and a full understanding of contractual requirements, including employer duties from practical completion to the issue of the Certificate of Making Good Defects and beyond with regard to latent defects. You’ll be able to carry out risk assessments, cost / benefit analyses and assess liability. You’ll be able to research documents for compliance with development and lease agreements, and ensure project specific documentation and agreements are in place.
