**_Job Description Class Teacher _**

**_Teachers make the education of their pupils their first concern and are accountable for achieving the _**

**_highest possible standards in work and conduct. Teachers act with honesty and integrity; have strong _**

**_positive professional relationships; and work with parents in the best interests of their pupils. _**

**_1. Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils _**
- _Establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, rooted in mutual respect. _
- _Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions. _
- _Set high expectations for not only the academic success for each child but expectations that develop _
- them as a whole child. _
- _Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which are expected of children _
- in our school. _
- _Maintain an attractive and stimulating interactive learning environment, and to contribute to displays _
- in the school as a whole. _

**_2. Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils _**
- _Plan lessons which build on children’s current knowledge in order to make rapid progress. _
- _Use formative and summative assessment accurately in order to make accurate judgements about _
- children, at least termly. _
- _Encourage children to reflect on their own learning and learning behaviour in order to make accurate _
- self-assessments and make progress. _
- _Be accountable for pupils’ attainment, progress and outcomes. _
- _Be aware of pupils’ capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these. _
- _Guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made and their emerging needs. _
- _Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching. _
- _Encourage pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work. _

- _Keep abreast of curriculum developments in order to maximise the opportunities for children’s _
- progress. _
- _Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, _

**_4. Plan and teach well-structured lessons _**
- _Plan and prepare work for the pupils in accordance with the EYFS and School Policies, appropriate _
- to the schools’ needs, interests, experience and existing knowledge of the pupils in the class. Involve _
- the support staff in planning and preparation where appropriate. _
- _Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time _
- _Promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity. _
- _Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching. _

**_5. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils _**
- _Know when and how to differentiate appropriately and with maximum effect, using approaches which _
- enable pupils to be taught effectively. _
- _Have a secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit pupils’ ability to learn, and how _
- best to overcome these. _
- _Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and how _
- to adapt teaching to support pupils’ education at different stages of development. _
- _Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special education needs; _
- those of high ability; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and be able _
- to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them. _

**_6. Make accurate and productive use of assessment _**
- _Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress. _
- _Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons. _
- _Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to _
- respond to the feedback in accordance with the schools’ high expectations. _

**_7._** _ **Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment **_
- _Fully uphold and implement the school behaviour policy which promotes high expectations for _
- behaviour, individual responsibility and excellent learning behaviour. _
- _Fully engage with and uphold the school’s Restorative approach to conflict in order to restore _
- harmony in challenging situations. _
- _Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good _
- and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the schools, in accordance with the school’s _
- behaviour policy.
