Community Safety Volunteers

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has established a successful Volunteer Programme, covering a wide variety of roles.

We ask our volunteers to ideally commit to 8 hours volunteering per month - in return we provide a full induction into role; training; and ensure our volunteers gain invaluable experience.

You will be supported by a Volunteer Coordinator, and will be reimbursed reasonable travel and subsistence expenses.

About the role:
To contribute to the implementation of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Safety Plan, and to support the delivery of our priorities in order to help improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our communities.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have Community Fire Stations across Staffordshire, used by a wide range of partners and community & voluntary groups for many different activities.

The role of the Community Safety Volunteer is to assist the Prevention Teams to work with identified and targeted community groups.

Activities include:

- Provide support to groups in terms of conferencing facilities, equipment and refreshments
- Communicate safety messages via short presentations, and give basic health & safety awareness briefs
- Make links with, and liaise with, local community groups, advocating our messages to the most vulnerable and maintaining contact where possible
- Engage with local teams, crews, and facilities management
- Organise and support events to bring local groups together, utilising our community station facilities
- Represent Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service at community “Out Reach” sessions
- Support fun days at Service Headquarters and local Fire Stations
- Support Firefighter Charity Car Washes at local Fire Stations

Person Specification:
We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Clear written and verbal skills
- Ability to achieve deadlines, work on own initiative, and be self-motivated
- Ability to work well as a team member or individually
- Coordination and administration skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Have an awareness of their local communities, and the structures within these
- Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable

Additional Information:
You must be willing to commit to 8 hours volunteering per month.

Full training and uniform will be issued followed successful completion of training programme.

A driving licence is desirable but not essential.
