**_As an IPC Senior Nurse Specialist, you will be embedded into the national IPC team within UKHSA._**

**_You will develop and contribute to UKHSA guidance which relates to IPC using a collaborative approach and will provide expert IPC advice to inform UKHSA leadership, contribute to UKHSA strategy and national policy development as appropriate.You will contribute to relevant workstreams to deliver the UK Antimicrobial Resistance five-year national action plan._**

**_You will work closely and partnership with UKHSA colleagues including but not limited to the Healthcare Associated Infection, Fungal, Antimicrobial Resistance, Antimicrobial Utilisation & Sepsis Division, HPTs, Porton Down, behavioural science,evidence, guidance, reference laboratories and other national teams. You will also engage and work closely with external stakeholders especially NHS England and NHS Improvement and Department of Health and Social Care._**

**_You will also be expected to contribute to teaching and training to build IPC capacity and capability within UKHSA and work with a wide range of external stakeholders to contribute to capacity building across the Integrated Care Board._**

**Location**

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) offers hybrid working - this means that whilst the role will be based in one of our offices, there will be opportunities for an element of working from home. UKHSA have office locations across the UK.

This role can be based at one of our UKHSA offices/locations (Leeds, Manchester, Totnes, London, Horsham, Cardiff, Bristol, Nottingham, Harlow, Liverpool, Fareham, Gloucester, Newcastle and Birmingham) with opportunities for an element of working from home.
The balance between home and workplace working is to be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business needs and in line with departmental policy.

**Responsibilities section**:
**As the IPC Senior Nurse Specialist your main responsibilities will include**:
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

- Provide expert IPC advice to inform UKHSA investigation of outbreaks and incidents in or relating to health and social care settings including supporting HPTs, UKHSA national teams, and in support of UKHSA led national outbreaks and incidents
- Provide expert IPC advice to inform investigation approach, data collection, and lead engagement with ICB systems.
- Provide expert IPC advice to inform mitigation/control of outbreaks and incidents e.g., provision of recommendations in relation to IPC practice and IPC guidance) including to stakeholders (such as NHS Trusts) on behalf of UKHSA as appropriate.
- Lead the development of UKHSA guidance (public facing and for various settings) and contribute to cross organisation working on guidance which relates to IPC. In collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Provide rapid feedback on outbreaks and incidents to utilize learning for action for improvement or to reduce patient harm.
- Provide expert IPC advice to inform UKHSA leadership, contribute to UKHSA strategy and national policy development in relation to IPC as appropriate.
- Contribute to relevant workstreams to deliver the UK Antimicrobial Resistance five-year national action plan.
- Work closely and partnership with UKHSA colleagues and specialist teams in relation to IPC matters.
- Engage and work closely with external stakeholders especially NHSEI, DHSC, CQC, HEE, NICE, societies, royal colleges etc. and providers (health and social care) in IPC matters including guidance production and in support of campaigns.
- Lead and contribute to developing IPC skills and knowledge within UKHSA. Engage and collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., HEE, NHSEI, academia etc.) to contribute to capacity and resilience building across health and social care sector.

**Essential Criteria**:
**We are looking for an exceptional IPC Senior Nurse Specialist**

**Essential**
- Senior nurse / other public health practitioner with equivalent qualifications (MPH, MSc)
- Extensive experience in the field of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and HCAI & AMR.
- Registered General Nurse or Allied Health Professional in relevant clinical discipline with current professional registration for example NMC
- Expert knowledge and practical experience of healthcare epidemiology and IPC at senior level (for example NHS Trust, ICB, HPT, DIPC/deputy DIPC or equivalent)
- Experience of leading outbreak and or incident investigation and mitigation in health and or social care settings from an IPC perspective
- Experience of leading IPC quality improvement initiatives (for example at NHS Trust level, ICB or incident specific)

**Desirable**
- Involvement in research projects and/ or outbreak investigations, data studies and publication in scientific literature.
- Experience of staff management (recruitment, development and performance management)
