**Job Description: Lead Practitioner - Maths**

**Responsible to **Senior Leader/ Head of Maths

**Responsible for **Maths Department - Teaching staff and support staff within the

**(Line Manager of:) **department

**Pay scale **Main/Upper pay scale + TLR 2.7

**Liaising with **Headteacher/Deputy Head, other Subject Leaders, relevant staff

with cross curricular responsibilities, students and parents.

**Key Purpose**

The Lead Practitioner will lead on the improvement of teaching skills through modelling

high-quality teaching, coaching and training other members of staff within Maths.

**Duties and responsibilities: Raising quality of teaching and learning**
- Carry out teaching responsibilities in line with the professional duties of a teacher
- Model consistently high-quality teaching and be able to demonstrate excellent

practice to others
- Produce high-quality teaching materials that support excellent practice
- Prepare and deliver training courses across the school to improve teachers’ practice
- Support with teachers’ professional development and appraisal through carrying out

lesson observations, providing feedback and implementing strategies to improve

practice
- Provide mentoring/coaching to individual teachers’ in need of 1-to-1 support to

improve their practice
- Use data to identify individuals or groups that need further teaching support and

develop and implement strategies to raise the quality of teaching
- Use data to identify individuals or groups of students that need targeted support, and

develop and implement strategies to raise achievement
- Set challenging and ambitious targets for students on interventions and update parents

on progress
- Measure and assess the impact of interventions to raise achievement for students and

the quality of teaching
- Promote strategies which support differentiation, inclusion and positive behaviour

**Duties and responsibilities: Monitoring and evaluation**
- Co-ordinate and carry out monitoring and evaluation activities to improve teaching

and learning, including work scrutinies, lesson observations, learning walks etc
- Use systems to analyse data from monitoring and evaluation, and use insights to inform

strategies and plans for teacher development
- Support with self-evaluation and school improvement planning across Maths

**Duties and responsibilities: Tutor and Duties**
- Undertake the role of form tutor, if required to do so, and provide all relevant welfare

support for students;
- keep the student welfare team and tutors aware of any problems concerning

students in their care which arise during lessons;
- undertake supervisory duties before school, at break or after school as required under

the STPCD.

**Responsibilities of all school staff**

At an appropriate level, according to the job role, grade and training received, all

at risk or potential risk;
- be aware of health and safety issues and act in accordance with the school’s Health

and Safety policy;
- maintain positive discipline and uphold school policies and practices at all times,

ensuring a safe, stimulating and positive learning environment for all students;
- maintain appropriate standards of professional appearance and conduct and to

ensure that all interactions with students, staff, parents, governors and visitors reflect

a commitment to high professional standards of courtesy and behaviour and

effectively contribute to the safeguarding of learners at all times;
- keep their Line Manager/ SLT appraised of any concerns whilst undertaking this role.

**Professional development**

As part of your performance development, ensure that you:

- fully engage in the Professional Development and CPD programme as required;
- contribute to the setting of your own performance development targets which

ensure WSS improvement outcomes are met;
- regularly review your own practice and set personal targets in consultation with your

line manager;
- take responsibility for, seek out and engage fully with CPD in order to support your

development as a practitioner (all WSS staff have access to the full suite of training

available from The National College);
- maintain accurate and up-to-date professional development records on your
