To assist with the process of all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses, to maintain Dispensary stock and to deliver prescribed medications where appropriate and in accordance with the principles of Good Practice, Practice policies and following Standard Operating Procedures to maintain a high standard within the Dispensary.

The Post holder will project a positive and friendly image to all Dispensary patients and other visitors, dealing with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.

To assist with ensuring that all dispensed medicines and appliances are checked against the prescription on handing out to the patient according to surgery standard operating procedures. Whenever there is any doubt about the appropriateness of the item, labelling or dose instructions to check with a qualified dispenser, the authorising prescriber or duty Doctor.

To collect all prescription fees where required and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is completed and signed by the patient and all relevant documentation is seen or recorded if not.

To ensure all monies received are appropriately stored and recorded.

To file all Dispensary invoices accordingly and forward any Dispensary related correspondence to relevant person.

To assist the Dispensers in operating an efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice.

To enter all stock onto the computer system on receipt of delivery. Accurately recording QUANTITIES, BATCH NUMBERS AND EXPIRY DATES, cross referencing items received against invoices or delivery notes via the computer stock screen or by adding on manually to the computer. Any discrepancies should be brought to the attention of a qualified dispenser or the Dispensary Manager.

To ensure all stock is stored accordingly to manufactures guidelines and Practice guidelines.

To ensure all prescriptions are attached to the correct patients medication bag once signed by the prescribing Doctor and filed accordingly awaiting collection.

On collection of medications by patient to cross reference all items in the bag with the prescription ensuring the NAME, STRENGTH AND QAUNTITY match that on the prescription. If there are any concerns they should be brought to the attention of a qualified dispenser or the Dispensary Manager immediately.

To record the prices of drugs requested on the Shortliner order list from the Appropriate web site according to those used by the Practice for ordering generic drugs.

Where appropriate to deliver patient medications according to Practice Procedures and SOPs.

To use the Practice delivery van appropriately according to Practice procedures.

To consider Health and Safety issues when sorting and storing stock and emptying boxes and that all shelves and work surfaces, dispensary equipment are kept clean and tidy and in good working order.

To ensure the use of computers is appropriate and in accordance with Practice procedures.

To maintain a high level of professionalism and politeness at all times and refer any concerns, incidents or errors to the Dispensary ,Deputy or Practice Manager.
