**Job Purpose**:
The post holder will be responsible for providing the highest standard in Catering on behalf of the YMCA London City and North. Ensuring that we operate a cost-effective provision through the best possible food standards and service and to ensure the health and safety of our service users and the reputation of the organisation. To provide two daily meal services for Residents from Monday - Sunday. The Catering Assistants will be expected to help the Chef create menus, communicate and survey residents for their food choices and operate within the highest customer service standard also in line with up-to-date health and safety requirements for kitchens and food preparations. Assisting with food storing preparation, production, cooking and service to the Restaurant. Also, to ensure the smooth running of meal service to be responsible for the meal service delivery, preparation and clearing down of the service area and restaurant at meal times. Service the meeting room and assist with the setup, service and delivery for internal catering bookings/refreshment requests.

**Job Context**:
Our Housing service offers a temporary accommodation solution to young people experiencing homelessness across 3 housing projects in Hackney, Islington and Haringey with two moves on homes in North London. The accommodation projects are open 24/7 - 365 days a year. At our Crouch End housing project, we offer a catered accommodation license for our residents which includes a two meal service provision daily.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- **1. Catering**_
- To offer highest standard of customer service within all aspects of service delivery in catering services. Assist the chef in basic food preparation duties.
- Assist the Chef and Catering Lead with the cooking of meals for residents.
- The preparation of the service area and restaurant for mealtimes.
- The service of meals and beverages to the residents according to the portions directed by the chef.
- Wash up pots, pans, kitchen equipment crockery, cutlery, glassware, primarily with a dishwasher.
- Keep catering areas clean and tidy at all times.
- Follow a daily cleaning schedule either in the restaurant or kitchen.
- Keep a neat appearance of the restaurant.
- Report all maintenance issues to the Estates Team.
- Assist in keeping check, and placing of orders of all food and equipment with the Chefs.
- Work flexibly according to the demands of service as requested.
- Communicate with clients and deal effectively with queries, comments and complaints.
- Ensure compliance with statutory health and hygiene regulations, safety of equipment, staff and service use.
- Assist with stock rotation and the correct storage of goods.
- **2. Hygiene, Health and Safety**_
- To support the Catering Lead in ensuring food hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen, setting high cleanliness rules, practices and routines to avoid accidents, food spoilage or waste.
- Assist the Chef with the security of all foods, chemicals and equipment by maintaining procedures laid down by the Health and Safety Policy and risk assessments.
- Maintain cleanliness, food safety and all other Health and Safety matters are adhered to so as not to breach any legislative points within the Food Safety Act 1990 or the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- The post holder will be required to wear the appropriate uniform whenever they are on duty and abide by the requirements of our dress code and uniform policy in the staff handbook.
- Participate in staff Training & Development is completed together with health & safety regulations.
- Support the Chef and Catering Lead with risk assessments
- Record and display allergen information
- **3. Other Duties**_
- Attend departmental briefings and supervisions.
- The post holder will be required to provide reasonable cover for team members if the need arises.
- The post holder will undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Catering Lead or Chef.
- Report any resident or colleague safeguarding concerns to the appropriate manager.
- **4. GDPR and Data Protection**_
- Adhere to YLCAN suite of GDPR policies and best practice.
- Report any data breaches promptly to your line manager.
