We are looking to appoint a part time Youth Mentor on a permanent basis with a starting salary of £21,974 pro rata rising to £24,839 pro rata following a successful, 6 month probation period**.**

Project Background_**
- “To inspire young people on our estates, to encourage and empower them to grow to their full potential as involved members of our communities and wider”_
- The Raising Aspirations project will be delivered in schools and community settings to carry out the following objectives:_
- _Mentoring support to work with young people who lack the networks, role models and confidence to broaden their knowledge and horizons and potentially get a job or go to university.
- _Career exploration for young people including a programme of “careers days”, providing information and inspiration from people in work which may include workplace visits or motivational talks._
- _Carry out activities that are engaging and motivating, planned by the young people_
- _Practical training to _develop leadership skills
- _Training and support to create a talent pool of young people prepared and ready to take up apprenticeships_
- _Pre tenancy training which includes life skills, money management and home maintenance_

**Overall Purpose of Job**
- To be part of a dedicated team to deliver a mentoring programme across our estates as part of the Raising Aspirations project.
- To mentor and coach young people at the Westcliff youth club two evenings per week, currently Wednesday & Friday, and support the delivery of the youth sessions.
- To support young people by providing them with positive role models with the aim of having a lasting impact on their lives.
- To deliver a consistent, high quality range of supportive activities in order to help young people to overcome the barriers that prevent progression in education, raise aspirations and develop life skills
- To work with existing organisations, including schools, youth clubs and sports providers to encourage partnership working on our estates.
- Contribute towards the achievement of ongo Communities strategic and operational targets and overall company aims.

**Main Responsibilities**
- Establish relationships and work on a one to one basis, mentoring and assisting individuals to remove personal barriers, help them to grow in confidence and gain new skills through a range of support/mentoring.
- Work as part of a team to support young people from our communities, focusing on developing the confidence and skills to move forward in their lives.
- Work as a team to deliver diversionary activities that will help to reduce anti-social behaviour and engage young people in positive activities
- Take an active part in activities including fun sessions, sports and events and create opportunities for young people to design and deliver their own activities.
- Deliver careers days and mentoring in schools as required
- Work as part of the team to advertise the service, including social media marketing, using case studies and representing the company at events as appropriate.
- To participate in personal support and supervision, undertake personal development training as appropriate to the post.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the grading of the post as considered appropriate.
- Work closely with the recruitment team to keep up to date on upcoming apprenticeship opportunities and provide training to prepare and upskill young people to be able to apply

- Ability to engage with young people, particularly those who are hard to reach
- Excellent oral communication skills, including the ability to use clear language within a variety of contexts.

- Making decisions on appropriate support for individuals and when/where to signpost.

**Contacts & Relationships**
- The ability to forge and maintain relationships with young people and and partner organisations.
- The post holder will be responsible for safeguarding with regard to project activities, ensuring that they fully understand their responsibilities and how to report issues
- Working in partnership with professionals in the wider community

**Decision Making - Discretion**
- Ability to work as part of a team to formulate solutions
- Able to identify potential areas of risk, evaluate and implement resolutions with support from line manager.

**Responsibility for Resources**
- Take responsibility for the day to day management of equipment to the maximum value of £1000.
