**Campus Patrol Officer**

**Overview**

Bader College, located at historic Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex, is the overseas campus of Queen’s University, Canada. The campus occupies a 600-acre estate, including a range of academic, residential and recreational facilities. Usually, our dedicated faculty and staff provide exceptional academic programming for undergraduate and postgraduate students from Canada and around the world. We also serve as a venue for international conferences and meetings. Our wholly owned trading subsidiary, Herstmonceux Castle Estate Limited (HCE), is responsible for running the gardens and grounds, corporate events and other functions.

However, the whole estates is undergoing significant renovations, whilst the gardens and grounds remain open to the public.

**Campus Patrol Department**

The Campus Patrol department consists of 6 members of staff:
1 Campus Patrol Supervisor

4 Campus Patrol Officers (Night);
1 Campus Patrol Officers (Day).

**Working hours**: 12-hour shift: 19.30 to 07.30, worked over 3 off/3 on throughout the duration of the year. Average working hours 42 hrs pw

**Salary**: £25,081 + employee benefits

(6.6 weeks holiday entitlement which includes bank holiday allowance, extra days holiday assigned to cover three days Christmas closure, death in service benefits and health cash plan upon joining. Once probation has been completed, paid sickness absence and after the appropriate length of service, Group income protection and Ill health.

Main purposes of job

To ensure the security of the campus buildings, gardens and grounds, and all students, staff/faculty, guests and visitors. Security of the Castle, Bader Hall Residence, other estate buildings and campus gardens and grounds:

- carry out hourly patrols of all campus buildings, gardens and grounds on foot and by car, including Science Centre and Isaac Newton Tower
- monitor the CCTV system; daily check the position and function of cameras, maintain records and use the system to record and report incidents in accordance with the Bader College policy and guidelines.
- be always alert to the safety and security of students, staff/faculty, guests, visitors, and campus property at all times, offering physical assistance if necessary.
- complete the online daily security report.
- unlock rooms in the Castle early in the morning and lock in the evening.
- unlock gardens early in the morning and lock in the evening.
- check on the identity of unknown/suspect people on campus in a polite manner.
- prevent unauthorized access to any part of campus.
- provide emergency first aid response, administer CPR and use defibrillator if required.
- provide assistance with lift rescue in the event of an emergency, including entering the lift room and executing the emergency lift recovery procedures, including manually pumping the lift
- in the event of an emergency evacuation, provide emergency assistance to evacuate a person using the evac chair.
- show tact, diplomacy and follow Bader College company procedures when dealing with unruly/unhelpful people.
- provide practical support for visitors with mobility needs when required
- assist with parking and directing traffic (vehicle and footfall) to the Castle and grounds when required
- unlock and secure areas identified on patrol
- assist at Reception, the Ticket Office Gate, and West Gate as required:

- distribute daily Royal Mail delivery deliveries and packages to various areas
- assist with Ticket Office, Gate, and West Gate security when required
- carry out regular checks of panic alarm buttons.
- clean and carry out basic running maintenance of the campus patrol vehicle.
- any other duties that may reasonably be required.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications**:
Basic literacy and numeracy to minimum Key Stage 2 level

Current full 3-day First Aid at Work certificate (training can be provided)

**Skills/ competencies**

**Knowledge and experience**

Experience of working in security role for at least two 2 years

Experience of working with a wide cross-section of people.

Pay: £11.44 per hour
