An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic Genetic Counsellor to join the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine (WOSCGM). The post-holder will enjoy a broad caseload, including general, cancer, cardiac and prenatal work and have the opportunity to develop strong working relationships with other specialities in various MDT clinics. Genetic counsellors work autonomously as well as flexibly, seeing patients in person as well as by telephone and through video consultations. Team members are encouraged to develop areas of special interest, including; cardiac, ophthalmology, PGD and neurology. The service actively supports continued professional development, including involvement in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

**About Us**

The WOSCGM serves a population of approximately 2.6 million covering Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Forth Valley, Lanarkshire, Dumfries & Galloway and Ayrshire & Arran.

The Genetic Counsellor team is diverse, benefitting from a mix of nursing, scientific and academic backgrounds. The team comprises of eight Genetic Counsellors, one research Nurse and Genetic Nurse Specialist, supported by four Principal Genetic Counsellors and one Consultant Genetic Counsellor. We work alongside an experienced team of Clinical Geneticists, Specialty Doctor, Specialist Registrars, as well as administrative and secretarial staff.

The WOSCGM works in close collaboration with the University of Glasgow on delivering the MSc in Genetic & Genomic Counselling. This is a 2 year full-time postgraduate degree, which has been accredited by the GCRB. The course welcomes 8 students over the two years. As a service we are deliver teaching of counselling skills, research skills and clinical genetics knowledge through face-to-face tutorials, Personal Based Learning (PBLs) clinical observations and practical workshops. We also support and train the students through two large clinical placement blocks, which make up a significant portion of their 2nd year of the course.
