Trainee Valuer
A rare opportunity has arisen for a trainee valuer at Gorringe's saleroom in Lewes.
The job involves booking-in items for auction, sorting them into sale order, cataloguing and lotting up ready for viewing, assisting the photographers prior to auction deadline, assisting with the public viewing, clerking for the online bidding during the auction, sorting the lots post-sale and assisting customers with collecting their purchases.
It is an opportunity to start at the bottom and learn the profession whilst working. Previous trainees have ended up as senior valuers and auctioneers but, make no mistake, it takes many years to achieve that level in the antiques industry.
The job is varied, with all sorts of fascinating items passing through the sales, lots to learn and many interesting people to deal with along the way. The saleroom is bustling with activity with over 800 lots on offer every week and additional quarterly Fine sales.
Previous experience in arts or antiques is not essential but will be advantageous. Training will be given to develop your knowledge and skills.
You will need to be reliable and hard working with good common sense.
